Song: Coast'in - Zion I
Today is the day.
“Does everybody have all their equipment prepared and put away?” The teacher called out over everybody’s chatter.
Alex huffed from beside me. I turned my head and gave him a dirty look.
“Try to keep up with me or you will be left behind.” I muttered.
“Whatever you say.” He grabbed his bag and filed into the line.
“Bambi dear, are you feeling alright?” Ms. R gave me a pat on the back and stared at me with worry.
“I’m just not too enthused with my partner choice, or our exorcism site.”
“Alex is very skilled in this class, as are you, and that is exactly why I gave you two the hardest location.”
“The Asylum though? That doesn’t exactly seem a fit place for two teenagers to be roaming about.”
“It is going to be perfectly fine sweetheart. It is still early in the morning, and other students have been going all over the state for their assignments. You kids are just lucky it’s so close by. Plus, I have complete faith in the both of you.” She gave me a warm smile and led the class out the door.
This is insane! I’m not going to run around an Insane-Asylum! Has she not watched any horror films!? Everybody either dies or gets extremely injured for life! And I’m not just talking about physically injured; some of those people are mentally scared for the rest of their lives.
I followed the class into the parking lot to wait for my seat on the bus.
“Hey are you that Bambi girl?” Some guy from her 4th period class asked.
“Yeah why? I turned to him with an uninterested look on my face.
He looked me up and down then said with a wink, “What’s a pretty little chick like you being sent to hang out in the asylum for?”
I sighed and pinched the bridge of my nose.
“You want to know why I’m being sent there?”
“Of course, because I wouldn’t want that pretty face to be all jacked up by the time I ask you out.”
I’m surrounded by D-bags these days.
I glared at him then kicked him where it really hurts.
“I’m avoiding stupid assholes like you.”
The crowd laughed as I boarded the bus. My day has been ruined even further.
“Good choice of words Bambi.” The teacher laughed and gestured for me to have a seat.
I grinned and sat next to my partner.
“That was rude.” Alex gave me a sideways glance and crossed his arms.
“Well I’m sorry; I didn’t know it was acceptable for boys to harass women like that.”
“You didn’t have to kick him in his crotch though. That was a little much.”
“Oh, I’m sorry, are you feeling left out? I could kick you in the crotch too if you’d like.”
“That won’t be necessary.” He turned away from me, towards the window.
“That’s what I thought.”
Half an hour later we had stopped in front of the gruesome mental hospital.
“Ms. R, is it too late for a location change?” Alex was being such a whiny baby.
Yes.” Ms. R got up and took both our upper arms and pushed us out of the bus.
“Try to have fun you two!” She smiled and sat back down as the bus drove away, leaving us behind.
“This is just fantastic. I have to prance around a hospital for crazy people with a pansy.”
“We’ll see who the pansy is when you get scared by a shadow and wet yourself.” I pulled out my flashlight and walked in the building.
He followed quickly behind.
