Doris and Adam are changing after the show and Colin and I are drinking beers around the fire.
"You're really talented," he comments quietly.
He looks at me strangely and budges closer, "I haven't heard a voice like that before, it's so...strong. Are you classically trained?"
"Yeah, I am," I mutter, staring into the fire, taking a swig of my beer.
"That explains it then," he grins, "you're something else kitten."
I laugh, finishing my beer.
"I'm serious!" he continues, "You've done so much in the short time you've been here!"
"Guess I'm just lucky," I shrug.
Adam and Doris come to join us. Doris scowls at our close proximity and Adam looks uncomfortable. It's only then I realize where Colin's hands are. I stand up and move to get another beer out of the cooler. Ash comes back with their cut of the merch sales; $386.67 each.
"What do you guys think of Devin joining the band?" Colin asks suddenly.
I nearly choke on my beer, Adam stares wide-eyed at Colin and Doris is furious.
"Seriously Colin?!" she snaps, "You hit on some hussy with big tits and she suddenly thinks she can be part of our band?! I'm not having your latest conquest playing music and butchering our songs just so you can have an easy fuck!"
I lose it, "Listen you little bitch; this wasn't my idea! I'm just as surprised as you on this, I haven't screwed Colin to put this idea in his head, I'd probably catch a venereal disease if I did! I don't know what your problem is, but you need to get over yourself!"
Colin looks half annoyed half amused at my comment and Doris, with no comeback, storms off. Colin chases after her, and I sit down in front of the fire with my PSP. Ash decides to turn in early as Matt is picking her up tomorrow so that they can have a short weekend trip, leaving me alone with Adam.
He looks awkward but eventually sits down next to me with a beer.
"I don't know what her issue is, but she needs to grow up," I huff.
He sighs, "Doris has always been difficult," he admits, "she's very over-protective of us and it's often down to her to deal with the groupies and fans we've slept with when it ends in tears for them."
"You two sound like pockets of sunshine," I reply sarcastically.
"I know, we're good guys really but we're both idiots," he admits, "we've hurt more fans feelings than we'd care to admit. Neither of us is ready to commit to anything other than music and no matter how we express that, someone always gets hurt."
"So you're both just ready to sleep with everything that moves?" I scoff.
He smiles embarrassed, "We are guys, Devin."
I snort and go to stand up, disgusted. He grabs my arm suddenly and I whirl around, "Don't touch me!"
He lets go, shocked. My heart is racing. I'm panicking. I get flashbacks to Mike and his pathetic apologies and excuses. Adam looks away ashamed, "I'm sorry..." he mutters. But I'm not listening, this situation is too familiar. I go back inside the trailer and start writing in my songbook. I'm hyperventilating. It's too similar. I change into my underwear and crawl under the covers. I work on my music until late into the night. Someone comes into the trailer and I quickly pretend to be asleep to avoid talking. I turn onto my front with my face in the pillow and I hear drunk murmurs. It's Doris and Colin. He puts Doris to bed and turns to leave but stops. I hear his footsteps get closer.
