Chapter One: Backroom Boys******************************************

Practically every Friday night, Kendall was dragging me out somewhere, to do something along the lines of "fun". Let's just say, we have two very different views on the topic of amusement, and they didn't exactly bode well together. It's been this way forever; Kendall, the pretty, outgoing one, Me; the best friend, who's constantly bringing Kendall back to Earth, where I remind her that her feet should always be firmly planted upon the foundation of reality.

Anyways, this particular Friday evening, we were strolling along the downtown core of the city, in desperate search of something to entertain our impressionable selves. Usually, I complained about our little fiascos, claiming they weren't in any means a good source of quality entertainment. However, tonight, all I wanted was to get out of the house. Mom and Dad, as per usual, were away on business, and god knows what my 18 year old big sister Lindsey was up to with her boyfriend.

Kendall and I were 16, the most uncomfortable age, aside from all the other teenage years, that is. Kendall was silent as we walked down the eerily quiet street, her mind no doubt searching for an activity to partake in. 5 minutes later, we were back to square one, circling around the dead end alley where Kendall's green Mini Cooper was parked. She dropped hopelessly to her knees, overreacting in the typical Kendall fashion.

"I'm all out Lara, all out!" She cried out, glancing up at me. I pulled her back to her feet.

"C'mon! Don't tell me that the Kendall Batchette has not the slightest inkling of a thought as to what to do." She rolls her eyes at me, shoving me playfully in the side. I laugh, and, of course, shove her back even harder.

"Seriously Lars, we might as well go home!" She suggests, jerking her head towards the car, a mere ten feet away from us.

"You know I can't go home, Ken." I frown, disappointed that she forgot my current predicament.

"Well, what's the alternative, wonder around some crummy music store?" She ponders, gesturing the little shop on the corner.

"It's a start, c'mon, let's go!" I say, dragging her petite frame behind me.

Kendall has the typical music taste for a 16 year old girl... me not so much. I'm not one for solo artists, and despise boy bands, whilst Kendall is all for them. I'm more of the kind of person who likes bands with names like "Banana Peel Slip" or "Skull Crushing Ladybugs" (you really ought to hear their new album, it's the bomb.com) But music is my passion, and I will never dwindle away from my preferences.

The door chimes as we step into the store, a blast of air conditioning hitting me in the face. The place looks to be deserted, with the exception of multiple voices muffled voices drifting through the thin walls. I head into the section under the skulls, while Kendall longingly stares at Harry Styles in a One Direction poster. I shake my head mockingly in her direction.
