Chapter 1
Car rides, I hate them. It gives you all the time in the world to think about anything and everything that pops in your mind. My mind was currently full of worry. My dad told me 2 days before I graduated that we were moving. We weren't just moving though, we were moving back to my childhood town. We moved from it when I was about 8, the year my mother left us. I don't remember much about her leaving but that it killed my father. My father hasn't been the same since then, that's why I was so surprised when he told me we were going back. He told me he got a great job offer there, but for some reason I just can't believe that is the only reason. I didn't want to question him though, he seemed a little on edge about the moved. I was already missing all my friends at home and we'd only been gone 2 hours. I wanted to jump out the car and run back but I knew that my dad wouldn't be able to make it without me. The man can't cook nor clean very well, he needs me and even though I hate to admit it I need him too. He's my dad and ever since my mom's left I've been daddy's girl. Poor girl I didn't know how he was going to make it through puberty, but he trooped through it. In the mist of all my thinking I had dosed off.
"Sara honey wake up," my dad was slightly nudging my arm.
My eyes slowly opened to see a little apartment building in front of me.
"We're here," he smiled getting out of the car.
I stepped out and looked around. The side of the street we were on was lined with 2 story apartments and across the street were little houses. I instantly knew we were on the suburban side of town. I was relieved by that knowing I was on the calm side.
"You going to help me get the stuff lazy bum?" he mocked opening up the trailer attached to the car.
I smiled walking back to help him get things. We downsized a lot in the move but it didn't bug me much. I still had my bed and that's all a lazy bum needs. I helped him carry all my things in and then the kitchen stuff and he let me rest.
"Dad I think I'm going to go for a walk," I smiled walking towards the door.
"You don't want to sleep?" he asked confused.
"No I just want to see what this town looks like now-a-days."
"Well just don't be out to late and answer your phone if I call," he plopped down on the couch.
"Love you," I said heading out. I started walking down the street and made some turns every once in a while, but noting in my phone which ones I turned on.
It started to get dark outside when I noticed a pub at the end of the street. My eyes shut open and my heart raced as I read the sign, Tommy's. My dad and my mom took me there every Friday night. I started walking towards it when I realized something was very different about it. I couldn't put my finger on it, but I did have a feeling in my gut telling me to turn around. I ignored the feeling and walked into the pub. I looked around and it was practically empty.
"Hi there, do you want to be seated or are you going to sit at the bar?" a waitress asked.
"Um, I'll sit at the bar," I smiled back. I walked over to the small bar on the farther side of the room. I had to lift myself up in the tall bar chair. The sad side of being short but feet didn't touch the foot bar. I danged them back and forth waiting for someone to ask me for a drink.
"Hi," a deep voice said behind me. My body tensed as he took the seat by me. Something about his presence was already intimidating. I glanced over and my sight was reassured. He was a big man, tall and bulky. I had every reason to be scared of him and I was.
"Hi," I mumbled.
"You're a pretty young thing aren't you," he grinned. I smiled lightly trying to keep myself contained. I started to get up and head for the door when he spoke.
"Where are you going you just got here?" he said. I could hear him walking towards me. I panicked. I knew I had to come up with an answer and quick.
"Umm, I have to leave, I thought I had more time than I did," I said smiling as I exited the pub. As soon as I stepped out I pulled my phone out.
"Where do you have to go beautiful?" Apparently this guy wasn't giving up.
"I have to uhh," think Sara think, "met up with my boyfriend."
"Oh really? Well do you need a ride," he said standing right behind me. I could feel his breath trail down my neck and I knew I was in trouble. I had no boyfriend no one, but my dad to call and I couldn't let him know what I got myself into. I looked up and saw a guy walking towards me. He seemed innocent enough in his hoodie with his hair pulled back in a beanie.
"There he is!" I yelled running towards him. I put my hands up to met his chest practically making him stop.
"I'm so sorry to bug you, but I need your help, this guy is creeping me out and I need to get away," I whispered. He looked down at me and our eyes met. They couldn't have been a prettier blue, I swear I could swim in his eyes.
"And you want me to?" he asked.
"I told him you're my boyfriend and I had to leave with you." He gripped my hand and walked towards the guy. The tall guy smiled at and I looked up at the new stranger and realized he shared the smile.
"Hey Paul, thanks for looking after my girlfriend I'll be taking her home now." Wait what he knew the guy?
"Girlfriend? I never knew you to be the dating type kid."
"Oh I'm not but she feels more comfortable with the term girlfriend," he winked at the tall man who started to make his way in the other direction.
"Don't break her lad," the man yelled back.
"No promises," the guy yelled.
"Wait you know him!" I yelled releasing my hand from his.
"Oh yeah, Paul's a friend."
"That guys a creep," I muttered walking in front of him.
"Honey I hate to burst your bubble but you're not exactly looking at the golden child." I froze in my spot as I felt his hand wrap around my waist. He quickly spun me around and had both arms wrapped around me. I put my hands up trying to force him off but he wouldn't budge.
He leaned down and whispered in my ear, "where do you think you're going girlfriend?"
