"Hey, Shiki, come on there's a great spot up there!"
"Don't be such a kid. It hasn't even started yet," Shiki slowly climbed up the hill.
"Just hurry, I don't want to miss the first star shower in the last ten years!"
We soon made it up the hill with no time to spare before the stars started to fall.
"That's amazing!" the stars seemed to dance in the sky as they slowly disappeared.
"What's so great about it?" she said in an uninterested tone.
"What do you mean?" I didn't expect that from her, "It's stunning."
"I don't know what they teach you in your sheltered castle, Prince Charming, but do even realize what's happened to those stars?"
"No..."
"They're all dead. Every last one of those shooting stars are dead and we're all just watching, enjoying the sight. That's a cruel way to end their lives."
Shiki got up to leave.
"Wait a second, you're sort of wrong."
She stopped and turned back to me, "Tell me how I'm wrong. Prove that people care about those lives."
"If people truly didn't care, they wouldn't watch the stars final moments. People don't cheer for their deaths. Most people are celebrating their lives."
Her sour face looked surprised for a second, then she walked back and sat back beside me.
We spent the entire night watching the stars, until the final one disappeared, together in silence.
