"How do you suppose we get there?" I caught up to him outside my house. " we're miles away from the mall. By the time we get there, it would be a quarter til' eight!" "Don't worry about it! just give me your phone." he told me, holding his hand out.
i gave him my phone and he dialed a number that i was too lazy to remember. "hey, yea it's James... Yea... really? ... ok... we're next to the bus stop across McDonald's. Yea there... sure!... ok... " he hung up the phone.
"who was that, what were they saying, and what the heck is going on?" i asked, throwing questions at him. "Don't worry about it!" he said with a witty smile on his face. "I swear. if we get picked up by creepy old guys and get kidnapped, i'm blaming you." I said, a bit paranoid but joking at the same time.
"Don't worry about it!" he said all calm and reassuring. He looked into the distance, "Look! Our ride is here." he said pointing out to the white mercedes that became visible when it turned our direction. "Did you tell your mom we're going?" he said, making sure i wouldn't get in trouble when i got home.
" Yea, but she kept asking who was taking us and i told her i'll call her back and tell her when i find out." i said grabbing out my phone to get ready to dial her number. "Wait, who's that in the car?" i asked squinting, trying to force my eyes to see clearer. I wore contacts.
"You'll see." James said with excitement in his voice.
"HEY! Did anyone call for taxi?" a very familiar voice yelled through the window. All i could see were long, brown hair, green eyes, and the familiar smell of buttercream bread. Oh.. My.. God...
"Is that who i think it is?!?" I started getting all excited. " and are you who i think you are?" the voice said. "MEL!!!!!!" I yelled running to the driver's side of the car and forcing a hug out of her through her window.
"GEEZ!! Give me some room, girl!!" she hugged me even tighter. "What are you doing here?!?" i asked her with a huge smile on my face. " I was in town and James called me asking if i can take you guys around. At first i denied it, but once i heard your name, i got in the car and rushed here."
Mellissa was my cousin. She was my wing-girl since i was small. She was for years older than me, but that didn't matter. She was the sister i wish i had. We talked about boys, school, and any fist fights we've gotten into that our parents could never know about.
She left to college right when she got out of highschool, and i haven't seen her for a year and a half. She always wanted to go to NYU since she was a kindergartener. When we were little, we would have one of those pretend weddings.
James was always the groom. Me and Mellissa had to take turns being the maid of honor and bride. Right after, she would pretend she was at NYU and have a side job as a waitress to pay for college.
My dad would sneak in to watch our little fun fest and talk about it at the dinner table when her parents came over. I'm just glad that she finally got what she wanted. And now she's HERE!!
The thought of having her there to help me pick out a dress for the ball made me implode with excitement! Just thinking of telling her what happened today makes my cheeks hurt from smiling too much.
"What are you waiting for? Get in the car chika!!" she said unlocking the back doors with the automatic button on the drivers side. " OKAY!! Haha i have SOO much to tell you!" i got into the car, closed the door, and put on my seatbelt.
"James, you coming?" I asked him with a hint of disappointment in my voice. "No. I don't want to interrupt your girl time." he started to step back from the car. "Come on James!! It'll be fun! And i need a guy's input on how i ridiculous i look!" i begged. Yea, its good to have a chance to hang out with Mellissa again, but it's not the same without James.
