A Green suit and pearl white boots.
She looked distastefully at the mud on her pearl white boots as she climbed out of the plush car. Her entourage of four consisted of two well-dressed females one sporting a masculine suit and hair cut the other dainty with short strawberry blond hair. The two males of the group wore tailored suits and a grim expression. Looking back at the group still in the car she scowled at their unwillingness to move.
"Well?" her tone hard and demanding, one eyebrow lifting slightly. The men rushed to get out of the car. She smirked. "No, I'd like Al with me. You boys can take Evangeline to our lodgings. Make sure she is secure and comfortable." The strawberry blond looked to argue but was silenced by the harsh look on the older woman's face.
"Am I understood?" She regarded them each sternly.
"Yes, mam" The men replied, straightening their flat caps and making a move.
The suited woman stood next to the harsh auburn beauty.
"Ya know" she drawled a thick New York accent spilling from her lips. "They respect you enough to do as you say without treating them like newbies. They're just as loyal as I"
The auburn sighed.
"Yes but I need to keep that authority. We're here to help. How can they allow a woman to take control of she comes across weak, Al?"
"You couldn't be weak if you tried" she lifted her cap and swiped a hand through her short black hair. Nodding the slightly shorter red head strode with purpose towards the door marked 17.
The red head smoothed out her green dress suit and pushed open the door entering the empty kitchen of the house. Knowing exactly where she was going, her heels clicked purposefully as she headed towards the noise of chatter.
Pushing open the doors she strode in, taking off her long grey military style coat that looked very out of place with her fashionable outfit she hung it on a coat rack. She began to pull out her hat pins as the room turned to silence. She ignored the eyes on her as she placed her hat with her coat and fixed her chest length wavy auburn hair.
"And whom may you be?" A deep commanding voice boomed in the silent room.
Fixing her hard gaze on the icy blue eyes of the man, she took three dominant strides forwards ignoring the clicks of guns cocking. She scanned the man her face staying unreadable.
"Mr Shelby, I'm here to help solve your problem"
"And what might that problem be Miss?" he left off as if for her to fill in. A quick smirk ghosted her lips, she could sense his frustration as she ignored his question twice.
"Shall we discuss in privet Mr Shelby?" More of a demand than a question.
"I would like to speak to Mrs Polly, if you'd be so kind as to lead me to her"
She began to scan the crowd of men looking for the woman. She came to a stop as a hand grabbed her wrist. She reacted quickly taking the hat pin that was hidden up her sleeve since she had taken the hat off, the point aimed at his jugular.
She tutted at his angry face "Mr Shelby it would do you well to remove your hand from me" her eyes held resolve.
"You wouldn't kill a man you came to help" he smirked. A gun was raised behind her. Faster than he could think of pulling his own gun, the man with the gun was screaming. The pin lodged in his gun hand. She was now out of his hold.
She held her hand up to the woman at the door who held two guns. One aimed at his chest the other moving around the room at any who dared to twitch.
"Al, lower your guns. We came in peace. However, I think men have forgotten diplomacy in witness of atrocity and horror" she was a presence to behold. He didn't know what to make of her but he nodded to his men to lower their guns.
"Follow me" Lighting a cigarette he turned on his heel walking towards his office where Polly was sat with a glass in one hand and cigarette in the other.
"Quite an entrance, Miss Kane. Though your mother was always one for dramatic acts of to manage, wasn't she?" her brummy accent thick and her tone at ease.
"She sends her apologies that she couldn't be here in person, but she has quite an empire to run." she frowned. "But you knew that"
Al had followed them into the room, she leant against the doorway silent and calculating, she looked relaxed as she lit a cigarette.
There were too many unanswered questions for Tommy's liking, he fixed his glaze on the Kane girls silent companion. This woman dressed as a man, who was she? Who was this commanding woman in the green suit? Why did they know so much about the Shelby clan and he knew nothing of them?
With no chair to sit the red-haired woman stood tall and unbothered at the man's scrutinising eyes that would scan each of the newcomers. Neither let it bother them, they'd dealt with worse men than Tommy Shelby back in Chicago.
"As I understand it you need allies in this silly feud with a Mr Billy Kimber as you're now also at war with the Lee's. Am I, right?" her voice was a tone of boredom. She did not care for helping those not family at the best of times but now, she was impatient with the situation. His attitude told her they weren't welcome here, being in a man's world and performing better than most men can't be easy for them. Violent jealousy and distain towards her was common, she had become quite sick of it.
Polly held a knowing look but didn't utter a word, she knew who she was dealing with. Tommy however stoic he kept his facial expression his eyes were hard with anger, but a glint of intrigue stopped a blatant refusal of her survives.
"How can you help us?" his patronising tone made Lillian's blood boil.
"I don't know if you quite know who you're talking to. My name is Lillian Kane Eldest daughter of Lilith Kane; she went under the alias of Levi Kelly for years uniting others under her banner. She has the largest influence in New York to Chicago, for years the Italians were at war with my father's family until he died, and my mother took over the business. I am her most trusted, now would you like a hand in your efforts to make your business legal or not?" She couldn't help but roll her eyes at her own speech she could practically hear the taunting words of Al.
"Then why are you here and not her?" smugness coated each one of his words; acting like she'd be that easy to break down.
"Because I can help you run a legal, well mostly, business and I know how to get you there" She smirked knowing now he must know who she was. After all she was one of the largest owners of hotels and bars across England and America. Polly's heels clicked against the floor as she moved next to Tommy wearing the same smugness he did minutes before. He gave her a long hard look as he took a long final drag of his cigarette.
"The rest of my men will be here in the next week. I thought it was of importance to arrive here first personally. I did have some matters to attend to before I clean your mess. Now Mr Shelby we can talk business at my Hotel the Birmingham Lilli tomorrow morning over breakfast, yes?" Without waiting for an answer, she carried on "Would you excuse Mrs Gray and I? I would like to walk the city with my mother's oldest friend." Tommy's head turns looking at his Aunt in annoyance only to be met with a slight chuckle and a shrug, not caring for his reply, she simply walked out of the door that was held open by Al. Just before she had exited the room completely she turned her head and smiled politely at Polly.
"I shall wait for you outside Mrs Gray" Polly sends her a nod a look of understanding passing between them before Lillian strode towards the door picking up her hat and coat on her way through the doors, leaving one Shelby quite baffled.
