You'll Be Mine

Chapter one

Darkness... it's the inevitable. It lurks at every corner waiting at the right moment to attack and consume me. I try to escape its grasp but the black smug wraps me in its trenches suffocating me. A cold black claw creeps it's way up my neck grabbing my throat. I can't breathe! Help! Harper... the voice is menacing but a familiar rasp

"Harper!"

I bolt awake in a panic to the voice of my sister opening my eyes to familiar surroundings, my heart pounding in my ears.

"What happened? Did you not get enough sleep again last night?" My sister questions her voice soft but filled with concern

"I guess not" I answer still feeling distorted

I hop out of the passenger side of our rusted red Chevy blazer looking up at Scarlett Santara High School. I frown it's the first day of junior year at a new school and I'm feeling uneasy. I pat down my baby blue sun dress it falls just an inch above me knees. I hear the driver side door close as Heidi comes over to me with her famous scowl on her sun kissed face her gold blonde hair pulled back in a tight high ponytail like always. She walks in front of me looking side to side as we walk to the school enterance.

"What's wrong Harper?" she stops me looking me over with the same worried lines that I'm sure are permanent on her face by now she's always so protective

I shrug "Just nervous that's all"

"We're going to be okay here. Don't worry"

I scuff at her "That's easy for you to say. You got to know people over the summer with your training"

she frowns at me

I put my hand up to her cheek "don't frown Heidi. It's negative energy."

She rolls her honey colored eyes "you could have got to know people too if you didn't stay locked in your room all summer reading silly books" she pulls me along

I giggle. She hates when I talk about energies and auras I can't help that I get strange feelings and am able to read people just by one look or touch.

When we enter the school I'm instantly hit with the aroma of maple syrup and sweaty gym socks... rolling out from the doors of the gym that are wide open in front of me.

"I'll be back" she mumbles letting go of my hand

"okay." I say watching her walk into the office stopping at the front desk to talk to the secetary

I turn my attention back on the gym hearing the sound of sneakers squeaking against the waxed hardwood floor. People shouting and laughing. I walk up to the solid oak wood double doors leaning against one to get a view of what's going on inside the gym. I see some of our pack members mainly male and a couple of female off to their sides sweaty moving around in some kind of drill formation. I stay and watch them as a group runs the perimeter of the gym. Others lifting weights and doing exercises while the last group seems to goof off while playing a game of basketball. I suddenly hear a thunderous laugh come from across the gym that sends jolts of electricity all throughout my body. I feel a rumble through my chest making my heart pick up speed. I look around and next to one of the basketball hoops I lay my eyes on the soon to be Alpha Ace Reynolds standing with his soon to be Beta Jax Swarm. He gives out another carefree thunderous laugh that just shakes me all the way down to my toes as him and Jax joke around punching each other in the arms. Ace is finally able to get Jax in a headlock. I realize the guys in here working out with them are the ones that are training to be Ace and Jax's right hand wolves for protection and border patrol and whatever else lurks in those dark woods beyond the treaty line. Everyone here sacrificing their lives making it their life's mission to join Ace's army when he becomes Alpha. My eyes linger on Ace as he smiles a glorious smile while joking around with Jax. The sweat dripping of off him makes his bulky muscles glisten where I notice he's shirtless and only in gym shorts. My mind is suddenly filled with thoughts that I've never thought of a man before, leaving me with a heat deep in my belly I almost miss my sister calling my name.
