(Nick's POV)

Yawning, I blinked open my eyes. I glanced at the clock, 7:41 AM. I was hugging something warm. My tail? The bright sunlight, rushed through my window and I squinted. I sat up. After Judy solved the night howler case, I decided to live in a simple apartment minding my own business. Business.... My thoughts flickered back to before I met Judy. When I worked with... Finnick. I smiled, thinking the money we made. 200 dollars a day.... My thoughts then wandered over to Finnick. What's he doing right now? Was I just a partner to him? Does he truly care about me? Those were the questions I asked myself as I got out of bed and headed to the bathroom. There was a wet sensation on my tail and when I brought it in front of me, I saw my drool near the tip. Grumbling to myself, I set off on the usual morning duties.

8:20 AM

I just finished putting on my signature blue striped tie and looked in the mirror. I smiled the smug grin I always do and said aloud,"Maybe, I'll visit Finnick today. Haven't seen him recently."

Maybe he's grown taller... maybe he's cuter. I blushed; I shouldn't be thinking that. I began to remember when it rained, I would always hang out with Finnick. His ears big, his physique so adorable. Sighing, I went and got in my car to go visit Finnick.

Later, I pulled up near Finnick's apartment. I sighed as I walked up the stairs, and my mind went blank as I tried to remember when I last visited him directly. 102, 103, 104. I read the room numbers in my head as I walked down the dimly lit, brown carpeted hallway. Soon, as I kept walking, the sign 109 greeted me and I stopped. The room was at the end of the hallway and it seemed unoccupied. However, if memory serves, Finnick lives here. I gently knock on the door. There was a clock on the wall beside where I stood. It hung on a stool with a vase of roses and chimed, echoing throughout the silent hallway.

Shortly after I knocked, behind the door, there were a series of clicks and turns. Uh... okay. I saw the door handle turn slowly and the door swung open. I inwardly gasped even though I expected him. There stood Finnick, his golden ears stood straight up. Surprisingly, Finnick didn't look angry or anything. He wore a little smile, his eyes glittered in the dim light of the apartment. We stood there for a few moments, just looking up and down at each other. I thought he would be angry, but he looks the opposite.

At last, Finnick said in his deep voice,"Nick! Why are you here?" He eyed me head to tail, looking neither happy nor mad to see me.

"I uh... w-well, I thought it would be nice to see my best friend after... so long," I stammered. I was at a loss for words. Naturally, I was the sly, smooth fox but I felt as if I had something stuck in my throat. And Finnick... he was acting different too. The snarky attitude was overshadowed with kindness?

"Okay, Nick. Come on in," Finnick shrugged and beckoned me into his apartment. There wasn't much that caught my eye, just some stray beer bottles littering the floor and a few crumpled red cups. I followed Finnick into the living room where Finnick said,"Okay, do you just want to hang out here or what?

I looked down at my paws shyly,"Yeah sure."

"Do you want anything to drink?"

I replied,"No thanks."

Finnick left my to look around the room. I sighed, and plopped down on the couch. Finnick returned with a beer.

Finnick sighed,"So, what's up?" I looked at Finnick in disbelief. He had changed so much since the last time I saw him. He saw me stare at him and I tore my gaze away. I folded my paws on my lap shyly.

"I just wanted to see how you're doing I guess. You are... acting strange today," I said. I felt something warm and furry against my paw. I gasped and tried to pull it away. I looked and saw Finnick holding my paw in his, scooting closer to me. I tried to inch away but my limbs didn't want to move.

Finnick looked up at me and said,"Do you really think I'm acting weird?"

I looked at the ceiling, trying to hide the blush I knew I had,"Well yeah, you are being cheerful." Finnick looked at me with a confused expression. "I mean, you aren't usually cheerful and all..."

Finnick rolled his eyes,"And you aren't always cheeky."

I was about to ask him what he meant when he took both paws and placed them onto mine. His golden cheeks betrayed a slight red.

"Finnick! What are you doing?" I cried as I struggled out of his grasp. Yet, I felt some instinct activate deep inside me, and my heart skipped a beat.

Finnick scooted closer to me until he was close enough to nuzzle my shoulder. He whispered,"You don't like it?"

"Finnick... I...." I really did enjoy this, I just didn't want to... open up too quickly. This was just meant to be a visit. But as I see him leaning up close to me, the warmth of his fur on mine, I feel like I've always had this feeling. He isn't just my best friend, I love him. "When? When did you change?"

Finnick looked uncertain as he said,"I really kinda changed... since you and Judy solved the case. I thought you didn't like me as a grumpy asshole who didn't like anything...."

I chuckled,"No... I know what you mean. It's okay. Finnick, I-"

Finnick didn't let me finish before he shouted,"Nick!" I looked at him, startled. His breath came in short gasps, tears streamed down his cheeks. "Nick! I don't care what you think of me, I... I love you!"

"Finnick, I... " I began. He buried his muzzle in my chest. I responded by embracing him in my arms, leaning back on the couch. His tail wagged back and forth excitedly.

Finnick sniffed and wiped his tears away,"Nick, I've always loved you."

I whispered,"Say no more." He brought his muzzle up to mine and held my cheeks with his paws. Our lips met and his rough tongue enveloped mine in a passionate kiss. I could feel his tiny paws wander over my body and eventually they ended up at the back of my neck. I laid my paws on the back of Finnick's head and I pulled him even closer. It was bliss. We kissed for about a minute before he broke off, a thin strand of saliva hung between our mouths. Finnick lapped at it greedily.

"Finnick, I love you so much." I picked up the smaller fennec in my arms and held him close. His warmth, his scent, his looks. He's what I've needed all along.

I gently nibbled his massive ears and he sighed. He looked at me, his beautiful eyes pierced mine and I felt warm all over.

Finnick said, in his deep yet adorable voice,"Nick, can you stay the night here?"

I smiled,"Okay. Finnick, I love you."

"Love you too, Nick."

Oh, second published story. Honestly, the first one was a dud from the start but after about a year, I guess I've learned how to write better. Sorry if I didn't capture the personalities of the characters very well and also if I rushed the story line too much. I know for a fact that some people like long drawn out descriptions and a well developed relationship whereas some like simple, concise descriptions and instant lust but everyone's different. Anyways, I'm just gonna ask for all your opinions on the next part. I know that not many, if any at all, people are going to read this but whatever. Also, can't find a good cover so yeah. But don't judge a book by its cover anyways.
