"I'll give you what you want then. You've got nothing but each other, you both can go die for all I care. You monsters are on your own from this point on."
No matter how much you wanted it, nothing could erase the fact that Nicolas read the words that came from his Father's mouth and nothing could rid yourself of the fact that he understood, completely. Shaking, you didn't know what to feel or even what you were allowed to feel. The soldier were eerily silent and it only frightened you more as it felt like you were being watched by a pride of starving lions and yet you couldn't move. Your muscles were frozen and Nic couldn't move either, he didn't say anything or even do anything either.
It made you nervous because you really just wanted to sleep, you wanted to waste the hours away in your subconsciousness and stop thinking. You desired the numbness that celebrer gave you and at the same time, you wanted to hide outside caged in the arms of the boy you loved.
He was surely in a state of shock, he was quiet and unmoving until you finally managed to move him away. The only moment you were ever really grateful in that room was when you opened the door to leave and no one said a thing to make you stop. They let you go and Nicolas walked behind you like a zombie and the scent of blood was still present, haunting you and engraving itself into your nostrils and your brain because of Nic's wound but he wasn't even affected by it anymore.
He had just been abandoned by his biological Father and even if he didn't cry, you knew he was in pain. He was in shock and he was in disbelief, you had never known of his subconscious longing for parental ties normalcy. But you couldn't do anything and you couldn't say anything to ease the situation. All you did was take him away to the outside, away from the spot that had surely been littered with dried blood but alas, Worick had been there almost as if he was expecting the two of you.
Nicolas didn't say anything, he couldn't. But before Worick could get a word out, a soldier came.
(Name)'s presence has been requested.
death?
human trafficking?
punishment?
Worick didn't know why they wanted you but when you obliged and followed the soldier, he didn't get an opportunity to voice his concerns when his mind was screaming no. Nicolas still hadn't recovered and he had felt a squeeze on his hand, tight and so comforting but he didn't notice the lack of your presence until you were gone and neither of them knew that that moment was the last time they'd see you again.
In the darkness of the study room; where the three preteens used to get comfortable with each other and deepen their unnatural friendship, only two of them stood there now. Outside the window, a darkened cloud moved in front of the bright moon and Nicolas felt himself further falling into a passive-aggressive pit that could only be eased by you. He was alone and it was strange, he had no one but a boy who desired to be free just like he did but without you, he felt like a shell of himself. He wasn't completely there because another part of him was with you and he; both Worick and himself, actually, hadn't seen you the entire day.
His words flashed through his mind while he stood on the one side of the room as Worick stood on the other, how he had hugged you in the battlefield and told you not to leave him and suddenly he was betrayed, abandoned and heartbroken. He was tired of everything and saw that nothing good could come to him again because if you were standing beside him, then you would've told him that for good to come then there had to be bad but you weren't there and that meant no one could tell him to still retain hope.
