Alex
"Hold her down!" Gabriel yelled at me.
I gripped Scarlett's shoulders and pinned her against the bed. She was writhing underneath me, shaking uncontrollably as a bloody coughing fit turned into a seizure.
We had called Gabriel as soon as we found her lying on her floor surrounded by her own blood. At first, she looked as still as a corpse, but then she began coughing up blood to the point where chunks of her blood had coagulated in what we assumed was her stomach.
Gabriel drove over in his car, and took the four of us back home, breaking the speed limit multiple times as her coughing lengthened and turned into brief fits. I kept holding her in the back, praying to whatever god that was listening to help her.
Her eyes were rolled into the back of her head when her eyes were open, but otherwise they were fluttering feverishly.
As soon as we got home, I ran her upstairs and we lay her on my bed. I could hear that Josh had started crying before we closed the door.
"Keep her steady!" He ordered me and Sam, as we both held her against the bed.
Gabriel had never ordered me to do anything in his life, and being who I was, I was surprised he was even daring doing that. But Scarlett looked like she was dying, and he looked like he knew what he was doing. So I held my tongue and did everything he said.
He carefully withdrew a needle and syringe from the bag he had brought with him. With a steady hand, despite her twitching and shaking, he filled the needle with her blood. Something in the blood smelled......wrong. Like a chemical reaction met a dead animal. And a moment later, he had injected her with what I could only assume was a sedative.
She went limp, her breathing shallow and rapid. All of the colour looked like it was drained out of her. I could just about hear her heartbeat, it was faint.
"Hopefully that will keep her from dying until I can figure out what's wrong with her. Alex, you need to come with me. Alex? Alex!"
I wasn't listening, all I could hear were his words before.
Dying? She isn't going to die, I won't allow it.
Hunter, I will find you, and I will rip your throat out!
I felt like my wolf was in control, I was feeling a fury, a fear, that I couldn't attribute to him entirely though. I didn't understand it.
"Alex?" Sam asked.
I flicked my gaze to his, and I could tell by his expression that he could see the vicious predator about to tear itself out of my skin.
"I'll look after her. I promise." His voice was steady and without inflection. I trusted him more than I did any other person. So with my wolf growling and spitting vitriol and fury at me in my head, I slowly, reluctantly prowled out of the house, and into Gabriel's car.
We drove in absolute silence, Gabriel knew better than to talk.
I was teetering on the line of sanity, all of my focus on staying calm.
While usually it was fear or anger that triggered a shift, any overwhelming emotion could tip me over. That was just the way it was with me.
I could hear him snarling viciously at me. He did that a lot.
I didn't understand what I was feeling, only that it was sending me insane.
As we pulled up in Gabriel's driveway, I could feel myself trembling.
