Kaitlyn POV

A pair of thick framed glasses, my auburn hair straightened down to my waist, a tight fit t-shirt with the words 'Nerd? I Prefer The Term Intellectual Badass' written across my chest, a pair of braces holding up my shorts, a pair of tattered red converse and not to forget my favourite black beanie.

That was my usual school attire and had been since I started my senior year of high school three months ago when my family and I moved here from Brooklyn. That's right, I'm a new yorker. But then my dad got this big job opportunity so the family all had to move across the country to California. I stood outside my three storey house waiting for my sister to finish getting ready so she could take me to school, sure I have my own car but driving into school in a light blue Acura NSX or a black Mustang wouldn't really fit the whole geek persona.

"Lola, I'm gonna be late to school, let's go already!" Within seconds my twenty year old sister made her way down the stairs, her platinum blonde ponytail bounced behind her as she walked "Ugh, why do you choose to wear that stuff?" I chuckled and slung my rucksack over my shoulder, as we made our way to Lola's car I told her "To keep a low profile, this way I'm invisible but if I dress normally then that ain't gonna happen." "And you wanna be invisible because?" She asked once both our doors had slammed shut and she slipped the key into the ignition "I promised Daddy that I wouldn't get into anymore trouble. That means no parties, no drugs, no alcohol, straight A's, zero drama."

I sunk into the leather seat and turned the stereo on. Ain't It Fun by Paramore started playing, I sung along until Lola reached out and turned the volume down "So basically, you're no longer my kid sister?" "What?!" I exclaimed, shocked by her declaration. I mean, sure I'd altered certain aspects of my life but I was the exact same person. "Lo, I'm still me." I told her, she scoffed while gripping the steering material tightly with both hands. "My kid sister got into trouble on a daily basis, she partied every night, she ditched school and slept around. That's not you anymore Kait. Now you're the goody two shoes Daddy's girl." She told me, I was shocked into silence, instead if answering her I stared out of the window.

When she kept talking I looked back at her "See! The Kaitlyn I knew would've had a smart ass response to that." My eyes widened immediately when I realised how truthful her words are and I was about to speak when the car pulled up at school "Have a good day Kait, we'll continue our little conversation tonight."

I got out and was about to shut the door when Lola shouted "Oh! Before I forget, Ky and the kids are coming down in a couple of days." "Are you serious?!" I exclaimed excitedly.

Ky is one of my older brothers. I'm the middle child of seven kids, so at the grand age of 44 my parents already had five grandkids. "Yup. Ky, Holly, Liv, Jo, Phoebe, and Nick. They're all coming to stay." Holly is Ky's fiancée, they got engaged shortly after their eldest daughter, Olivia, was born, she'll be ten in just under three weeks. "I'll give Ky a call later and ask him when he's coming down. Seeya Lo." I said finally before shutting the door then walking across the parking lot to the double glass doors.

I arrived in reception and was greeted immediately by Brenda, she's the receptionist in case you didn't figure that one out. "Hello there Kaitlyn darling, how are your parents?" Brenda is also an old friend of my mom, they knew each other in elementary school and have been friends ever since.

"They're good, Ky's coming down to visit with Holly and the kids, mom will probably throw some big party in order to welcome him home." Brenda seemed to brighten up at the sound of my mom throwing a party but then her brows furrowed and she looked at me with a look of concern "That sounds excellent honey, but would you be ok if your mom threw a party. She'll more than likely have alcohol and you've worked so hard to get back on track, I'd hate to see you fall off the wagon again."

I rolled my eyes and sighed, "I'll be fine. It's not as though I'm a full on alcoholic, I just...I don't know. But I'm not an alcoholic." At that moment the doors opened and someone came walking in, I shut my mouth immediately not wanting anyone to know about what I was before I was the quiet geeky Kaitlyn King, when I was, like Lola said, getting in trouble on a daily basis. I looked to see who it was that had just walked in, before I saw him I heard him speak, from his voice alone I knew immediately who it was. "Morning Brenda, who's your friend?"

Nathan Stone.

Brenda looked up and with a smile in her face answered "Good morning sweetie, this is my goddaughter Kaitlyn, she just started at the beginning of this year." I watched out of the corner of my eye as he slowly looked me over, I wasn't exactly wearing anything special but I knew I looked ok.

"I didn't think I'd seen you around before, I would've definitely remembered someone as beautiful as you." At this I looked at him properly, my eyes automatically raked over him before I turned back to Brenda "I'll see you later."

Then I exited the room, just before I shut the door I heard Brenda say to him "Don't go messing with her Nathan, she's a sweet girl who's had a hard time." I could practically hear the smirk in his voice when he replied "As if I'd do that." I rolled my eyes then made my way to homeroom.
