°~°I apologize for this, it needs a few alterations before I can start on a new chapter°~°
It was a dark day, the kind you always loved, the cooled air just before a storm. Today though, would hold no happiness, as you already knew what the doctor would tell you. Night after night, you would toss and turn, struggling with the decision of what to do, you had finally come to a decision. Now, you just had to hear it.
Not that any amount of mental preparation could make the blow any less painful, "...What?" You looked at the doctor with broken eyes, the sadness was shining in his eyes. "You have cancer, I am so sorry...it is very rare and your chances of living are slim, unless you wish for chemo?" You shook your head, you had to make a decision tonight, and you had no clue what choice to make.
You laid in bed that night, tears stained your cheeks, you wanted to go back to Hogwarts, but you didn't want to shame the Slytherin house. In your sadness, you went to see your mom, she was downstairs nursing a glass of wine. She looked up as you entered and smiled, your mom was your biggest source of comfort. She was disowned from a young age for being a squib in her pure blood Slytherin family, and yet she was still the kindest woman.
You sat on her lap and curled into her she rubbed your head, feeling your distress. You softly spoke into her shirt, "Mama..?" She hummed to let you know she was listening, and just like that, you spilled everything. "I...I love you, and, I love this world, it's so simple...and easy...and yet..." You knew your mom understood, as she rubbed you slower.
The words that left her mouth surprised you though, "You...are so wonderful...everyday I smile over how beautiful your mind is..." She tapered off to take a heavy breath, "But everyday, I am reminded that you don't belong in this world. I wish I could keep you here, but Hogwarts calls to you, and so I believe you deserve to spend your days in the place that you love most..."
You looked up with tears in your eyes, your mom looked at your with sad but also happy eyes. Nobody could replace your mom, she was truly the only thing that gave you faith in your crooked family. You wished you could spend your last days with her, but she was right, even then, the magic thrummed through your blood. It always reminded you of where you belonged, and so you decided, you would spend your last bit of life at Hogwarts.
You had finally arrived at Hogwarts, it had been hard saying goodbye to your parents, but somehow you managed, as you got on the train, you saw your mom cry into your dad's shirt. The train ride had been relaxing and you slept nearly the entire time, trying to push away your sorrow until you arrived and changed into your robes. You got into the carriage and proceeded to ride up to the castle, which loomed beautifully in the distance. You could still remember your first time entering, you had been full of amazement and wonder, never having known of these sorts of things. Now as you entered, it was almost bittersweet, knowing that this could be the last year you could walk through those doors, you still held out hope though, somehow you would find a way to fix this.
You sat down at the table with your fellow Slytherins and listened attentively as the ceremony commenced. Food soon appeared, but as of late you had somewhat lost your appetite, you did your best though, trying some of it. Suddenly though, you felt sick to your stomach, you needed a restroom fast, so you quickly rushed out of the Great Hall and into the restroom, expelling the contents of your dinner along with blood. You felt very weak and ill, not having the strength to get up, you then heard a voice clear behind you. "Miss (L/N), may I enqire as to why you deemed it necessary to rush out during dinner?"
You turned your head to see the head of your house, Potions Professor Snape. He was the last one you wanted to see you like this, he had always been your favorite teacher, he was brilliant, and was more kind to you than the rest. He crouched down and assessed you before speaking, "(L/N), you're sick, would you like me to take you to Madame Pomfrey?" You shook your head, choking out a no, you had no idea how she would react, and you still needed to figure out how to fix this. Snape pursed his lips, clearly displeased, which gave you an idea, who better to help you than a potions master? You looked up at him sincerely, "Professor...over the summer, I was delivered very bad news..." He looked at you with narrowed eyes, "You will not prompt a less severe punishment from me with whatever you say."Yet he still prompted you to continue, which you did with a heavy sigh. "...I'm...dying, I have cancer, the doctor said it's incredibly rare and deadly." You continued a bit slower, "I... don't want to leave Hogwarts, or my life, I haven't even started it yet...so..." You gathered your courage and met his eyes, "I would like your help, I need some kind of a cure, and you are the smartest person I know, so please Professor..." You were waiting for the no, but it never came, instead, "I will help you, I know a potion, it will take a month or so, stay alive until then, otherwise I will curse your ghost to roam the walls of Hogwarts." As you stared at him, your cheeks flushed slightly, you never expected him to be so kind... A small smile showed as you spoke, " Thank you...so much...I swear to you I will return the favor..." His face stayed blank, but you could swear his eyes grew slightly warmer, maybe there was hope after all?
