Song of the Chapter: Oh Ms Believer, twenty one pilots
Eva turned back just in time to see exactly what was coming only seconds before it happened. She fell over Alex, getting struck with two bullets in her shoulder and arm. The rest pelted Alex with anger and venom. His legs buckled under him and Eva went down with the wounded boy. Pete had already jumped on top of the gunman, leaving Brendon and Sarah to push away their friends hurriedly. Tyler and Josh ran to help Pete, Dallon scooped Eva off of Alex while Joe and Andy picked him up carefully only to immediately run them inside and start trying to help their wounds. Patrick was calling police as Kenny and Dan went to find Brendon and help him.
Eva's POV
My head turned and all I could think to do was cover Alex. This monster had hurt him enough. The metal pierced my skin and loud sobs fell from mouth. I felt Alex's legs buckle under him and his weight fall to the ground as I followed. I opened my eyes just enough to see the blood that was covering the pavement under both of us. I couldn't protect Alex. I let him down. I leaned over to his side, causing huge surges of pain, and whispered in his ear "I'm so sorry Alex. I'm so sorry, I love you." I saw him look back at me and try to conjure words up, but nothing came out. In only seconds, Pete was on top of his dad and Dallon, Joe, and Andy were carrying the two of us inside.
They took Alex to the Fall Out Boy dressing room and me to the Panic! one. I screamed after Joe and Andy to bring Alex back, but nothing worked. "Please, Alex! I need Alex, please! Please don't leave me!" My crying had turned to the ugly kind. Scrunched face and squinted eyes, red stains down my cheeks and my voice shaking uncontrollably. I heard loud pitches ringing in my ears and no one's words made any sense. I heard Dallon trying to calm me down, but I had no clue what he was saying. "Dallon, I can't-can't h-h-hear you. Dallon, I'm scared-d." He buried my head into his shoulder and patted down the matted blue hair. When his hand came back, I saw red stain it lightly. Eventually, my hand met the sources of pain only to return soaked. The cries only grew as a group of uniformed people ran in and picked me up from Dallon's arms. I saw him follow close, but I wanted him even closer. "Dallon! Dall, please don't leave me." I saw him shake his head and his lips move as he jumped in the back of the tall vehicle. Seconds into it, my eyes fell against themselves. The whole world went black.
Dallon's POV
As I ran down the hall with Eva in my arms, I yelled at Joe and Andy to get Alex to another room too. As they carried him, Eva erupted in screams. "Please, Alex! I need Alex, please! Please don't leave me!" I turned her head into my shoulder and I tried to get her to the dressing room.
"Eva, you'll be okay. Alex will be okay. I promise, everything will be fine." Her hands placed themselves over her ears and she kept looking at me with sad, tear-filled eyes. She couldn't understand my words, the trauma too much for her to handle all at once. Eva kept crying and all I could do was let her bury herself in my shoulder. I ran a hand through her hair and saw the blood matted into it from the pavement. When she saw the red stains, she felt her own wounds. The tears fell faster and I felt completely useless to do anything but hold this poor girl.
The ambulances came and carried Eva away gently. I ran after them, refusing to let this girl be anymore alone than she already felt. I heard her screaming for me and my pace increased. I know she couldn't hear me, but I had to say something. "I'm right here, and I'm not leaving, E." With that, the ambulance sped off.
Alex's POV
All I remember is the feeling of the bullets hitting my skin and the weight of Eva fall on top of me. I couldn't think straight. I looked over to her and heard her whisper apologies in my ear. Why was she sorry? She didn't do any of this. She saved my life. Before I knew it, Joe and Andy were on either side of me, carrying me into the venue. Theo, Jane, and Sam were no where to be seen inside, probably on stage and far away from where the shots were. I heard Eva screaming for me, and I wanted to turn back and hug her. I wanted to tell her none of this was her fault, but I couldn't. By the time we got the the dressing room, I was knocked out. I could hear faint voices, but everything else is a blur.
Joe's POV
The minute we laid Alex on the couch, he was unconscious. Andy was trying to talk to him and wake him up, but it was useless. "Andy, I'm going to go wait for the ambulance. Wrap his wound." I yelled over my shoulder as I ran from the room and almost directly into a group of paramedics. I pointed half of them towards Alex and the rest to Eva. I saw Eva get brought out. She was still awake, but looked terrified and angry all at once. It was like the night of the bus, which scared me more then anyone could guess. Alex was next to emerge and the murmur of the paramedics was going right through me. Andy followed them, pulling my arm for me to follow. I felt like I wasn't there. Who does this to kids? Who does this to family?
Pete's POV
I ran as the shot fired and jumped on top of the crazed man. He struggled under my weight and eventually dropped the gun when he saw that he hit the kids. I turned my head to see them lying on the ground and blood emerge. When I turned back to face him, he was smiling wide and his eyes glistened with pride. All I could think to do was punch him right in the mouth.
He smiled after that too, teeth stained red. I kept punching, trying to get that damned smile off his face but nothing worked. Brendon and Sarah were long gone with the other kids and Eva and Alex were already taken inside. Patrick paced around the bus lot on the phone and I could hear the sirens blaring. A pair of strong arms, one covered in color, pulled me from the man. I saw Tyler lay back on top of him in my place and Josh's face appear in front of mine. "He isn't worth it Pete. He'll never get the evil beaten out of him." All that anger building up was becoming too much. I needed to punch something.
"Josh, he hurt Eva and Alex. He hurt our family. Just let me..." I yelled as I lunged toward him but only got pulled back by him and Patrick. 'Trick pulled me to the corner of the lot and tried to calm me down. The anger was nearly gone and the panic was rising. "Pat, what if she doesn't make it? Will she be okay?" I kept asking questions similar to that, but I can't remember what they were. I saw Pat trying to talk me down, but nothing worked. I sat there for what felt like years.
Brendon's POV
I saw Eva, the girl who had changed me and Sarah's world single-handedly, fall to the ground and heard the gasps and screams of her friend's in front of me. Sarah started trying to pull them inside and before I could lunge towards Eva, Dallon pushed me to the kids. I saw him start to get her and ran after Sarah. We stood on the stage trying to calm the three terrified teens down. Jane and Sam were in Sarah's arms and all I heard were soft sobs. When I looked up, I saw Kenny and Dan running towards me, both immediately hugging me.
"Is she going to be okay?" I asked quietly but rushed. Kenny nodded "Yea, they'll both be okay. I promise." I nodded then looked to the corner of the stage. There sat a sobbing Theo leaning against the wall. I walked over cautiously. His girlfriend and best friend were both shot in front of his eyes. "Theo?" I asked. When his face turned to me, my heart sank nearly as much as when I saw Eva injured only minutes earlier. "Come here," I said as I pulled him into my shoulder. His cries were louder and more breathy. I don't know how long we stood there, but soon enough, we were sitting in a car, Dan driving, on our way to the hospital.
Everything went wrong so quickly.
