Prologue:
Hallie POV.
____
No one invites the outcasts to the high school parties.
Not now, not ever.
Calculating the number of light bugs wooing around me, I continue to rest my distraught head on the easy grounds of James County, many light years away from any public accommodations. Consorted to several ideas, the mayor took each opportunity of business sale into his own calloused hands and refused every single approach, secluded Autaugaville even more.
I suppose that is why my suspicions were perked when the announcement of a mall was to be constructed by the month of August.
2 months away.
Sighing, I turned my avid attention to the walking form that was straying to my lazy one. "I see they forgot to send you an invitation as well." Bright and cheery as always, Blake spoke.
"Once a hater, always a hater." I smiled then went on, "What have you been up this lovely evening?"
He chuckled slightly, "Nothing much. My dad wanted me to clean the garage but I bailed saying I needed to meet you at the library."
"At eleven o'clock at night?" Blake nodded quickly and smirked, "Wow."
He bobbed his head once again before settling himself onto the dirt road that I was currently using as furniture. "When your dad does drugs as much as mine does, you'll know what I mean."He leaned down further onto the pathway till he was lying down. "So what happens when a car comes?" Turning his head, he questioned.
Peering over at my boyfriend, I carefully sketch the outline of an incoming bruise that was making its way to the surface, "I suppose we have two options. One, move or two, get ran over and die."
"Mhmm. I wouldn't let them. I would tackle to either side before they hurt my love." He gently took my hand into his; placing butterfly kisses on each fingertip before settling one onto the center of my palm. "I would kill if someone ever hurt you."
A happy sigh escape the bridge of my lips as I lay comfortable in the aura of my significant other. "Who said I wouldn't sacrifice my life for yours?"
He tackled me into his arms and captivated me to where I wasn't able to move an inch. "Baby, I wouldn't ever let you do that."

It was slaying on the midnight mark and onto our twelfth conversation about various foods when I felt the droop of my eyelids weighing down upon me. "My sweet love, let me walk you home." He whispered slightly into my ear.
I couldn't help but agree as he picked me easily into the swift of his masculine arms. "Don't let your dad hit you again." The intake of his breath made me aware of his desperate want of a detour off the subject from his abusive parent. "You're welcome at my house."
"I don't think your mom wants the devil in her house."
"I do believe she was on something when she said that! Just please?" Desperation leaked through my voice. "At least for a few nights?" I whimpered to him, praying he would stay.
"No and don't make me say again either." Demanding, he lifted me into his arms and carried me the way home...
