We pulled up to his house on a quiet street that was secluded from the rest of the town. All the lights seemed to be on as the yellow light from the windows danced on the lawn. He got out of the car and walked to my side and opened my door.

My cheeks still felt tight from crying as I forced a smile onto my face. He gave me a slight smile in return before bending down and giving a kiss to my right cheek. He picked me up with one arm securely around my waist and the other beneath my knees. I slipped my arms around his neck with the fear that I might fall if I didn't help hold myself up.

"Harris what are you doing? I can walk on my own you know." My voice is still wobbly and catches a little with my question. His voice is soft and sweet but full of evil schemes as it answers.

"I just wanna scare my mom okay? I don't get to very often so just play along with what I say. I know you have problems with trust by our little conversation back there, but I really need you to trust me now. I promise this will be funny." We were nearing the door when I nodded in response.

He knocks on the door and puts a worried look on his face and so do I to play along. His mom's figure soon occupies the doorway as light filters from the inside and her quizzical features on her face comes before the question.

"What is going on Harris?!" Her shout is enough to wake the dead and Harris just puts on a show as he answers.

"Mom I know this looks bad but I had to marry her, just let me finish carrying her over the threshold before you kill me." This is getting to be a pretty good show even though I think I know what's going through his mom's mind from her first impression of me. Her answer to Harris will make me laugh for the rest of my life though.

"You better carry your bride somewhere else then cause you can't live here." She's closing the door as Harris interjects.

"Mom I'm kidding I wanted to mess with you so I got her to play along, geez." With that he gently sets me on my feet and as he straitens up he's smacked in the head by his mother. I stifle a giggle with my hand as she starts yelling at him.

"If you EVER scare me like that again I will dig a six foot deep hole, and I think you know what those are used for don't you?" I like her already.

"Yes mom I do, I won't do it again." He's still holding his head looking like an injured pup.

"Good, because I swear if you do you'll be sleeping with the dogs until you move out! And I'm not joking." At that I giggle, but Harris just looks at me weird.

"Stop laughing she's really not kidding. One time she threatened me if I didn't leave her alone I would have to clean the kitchen tiles with my toothbrush. I wasted five hours of my life that day." He smirks at the end but I can tell he's telling the truth.

I wipe the smile off my face and extend my hand.

"Hi Harris's mom I'm Gemma." She glares at Harris for a second longer before she turns to me and grins.

"I feel its a pleasure to meet you, but unfortunate you had to meet my son first. He's such a strange boy sometimes, but I'm forced to love him anyways." Harris gasps at this and his look is saying what are you talking about. I happen to ignore him and keep the conversation going.

"Yes quite unfortunate, but as the past is the past there really is no way to change it." I think we really starting to piss Harris off.

"Now wait a minute you gave birth to me," points to his mother, "And if I remember correctly you were the one who actually, and of I had a pen would underline actually, agreed to go out with me." I put on my best smile and speak slowly as if I were talking to a child.

"Harris play nice or your going to be in a timeout." Then he was glaring at me, but now he's smiling really creepily and I'm starting to get really worried. Scratch that I'm scared.

"Mom if you can excuse us I believe me and Gemma need a little heart to heart talk." Before I can ask why the creepy smile I'm being carried up the stairs into a dark hallway which is funny because when we pulled up all the lights seemed to be on. Harris's mom's voice is the last thing I hear before a door shuts behind us.

"Talk all you want but no children are to come out of the conversation!"
