"I was born by the river, in a little tent." I sang as I squeezed the bottle and the hair conditioner slowly came out. I gently massaged it into my scalp. "Oh just like a river I've been runnin', ever since." I lowly moaned as the water from the shower rinsed out all of the conditioner. "It's been a long, a long time comin' but I know." I turned the knob to turn off the shower.
"Change gonna come. Oh yes it will." I slid open the glass shower door. My bathroom has a shower and bathtub separate. The toilet has its own cute little room. I love that it has two sinks. One for me and the other for him. I picked up my metal pick and went through my black, short, natural hair.
My name is Simone Maze and this is the story of my awkward and stressful life. I'm 23 years old, 5'7", African American, and living the good life. I'm not famous but I am well known in the state of California. I took off the towel and threw it into the laundry basket. "It's been too hard livin' but I'm afraid to die." I lightly sang then screamed when arms wrapped around my naked waist.
"Calm down baby, I won't let anyone hurt you." Glenn whispered, his hot breath on my neck made me shiver. He laughed then began to kiss my neck. Glenn and I have been together for one and a half years but we're not married and we don't plan to be. I know it's kind of crazy that a woman would date a man that long without marriage being in their future but it's our future.... Sadly Glenn doesn't want to get married and I've grown to live with it.
Glenn is 25, 6'3", African American, christian, and has the cutest goatee. We met my senior year of high school and have been on and off again ever since. I believe that our relationship has stayed this strong because we fit together perfectly and we have the same job. "Do you need any help putting lotion on that sexy body? I'm here for you." He smirked.
"Is there room for one more? I'll get the champagne." Whitney smiled while leaning against the bathroom door frame. Now the whole story about Whitney is pretty crazy so stick with me here.
We met awkwardly on a dating website before I met Glenn. I guess I clicked the wrong button (on accident of course) that said I was bisexual, Whitney took the bait and started messaging me (I didn't think anything of it at the time). We became friends on Facebook and met in a gym from one of my posts. I got the hint that something was wrong when she snuck up on me naked in the showers and tried to kiss me. I cleared the mistake and we've been friends ever since. She even began to live with me three months after because of some bad events at her house. Whitney is 22, 5'8", open minded, free spirited, animated, and the best friend I'll ever have.
I rolled my eyes and kicked both of them out of the bathroom that leads to Glenn's and my room. Glenn left peacefully but Whitney put up a fight. "Come on, I can help you get dressed. "Whitney yelled before I slammed the door in her face. "Fine then, I'll just go through your granny panties!" I know she was just joking but sometimes I worry.
Although I'm with Glenn she always flirts with me and that's what made it so hard for Glenn to agree for her to live with us. When Glenn asked me to move in with him I was already living with Whit so I had to tell him I would move in only if I could bring her and it wasn't a problem since we had an extra room so here we are now. I quickly put lotion on, got dressed, and walked out of the bathroom. Whitney was standing by the bed smiling.
"Hey best friend, can you take some pictures for me?" I looked at the bed and groaned when I saw my underwear on the bed. "We can start with these." she picked up the ones I got for Christmas. It had the word 'naughty' on it with a check mark beside it. I stared at my underwear on the bed, at her, then went after the underwear.
"How about the 'pin me down' ones with all of the safety pins on it? Even better, we can just take off our clothes and have sex right now." She whispered in my ear. I'm surrounded by perverts! I pushed her out of the room. She just smiled at me then left. I put everything back then ran downstairs to Glenn and Whitney.
Whitney and Glenn were sitting in the living room watching My Fair Wedding. Whit was on the floor and Glenn on the couch, I slowly sat down next to him and laid my head on his shoulder. "Wow, what a beautiful wedding. I bet you guy's wedding would be twenty times better. Cough, cough, hint, hint, wink, and wink." Whitney 'sort of' hinted at us. Try harder Whit, you can do it.
I understand but everyone keeps pushing Glenn and me to get married. I just don't know why they always talk to me about it. I can't just buy a ring, throw it at him while he's tying his shoe, walk in, and act surprised. I want Glenn to propose to me, what woman wouldn't, but he says he's not ready yet. "That's a nice cake. Would your cake be chocolate or vanilla? What about the theme? Would I have to wear a dress?" Glenn and I left the room instead of answering. "I want answers!"
I decided to make some popcorn, everyone knows that when I make popcorn I don't share. If you try to take some I will murder! I ripped off the plastic, threw the bag into the microwave, and pushed the popcorn button. "You know, she did ask some good questions." Glenn said aloud and I groaned. "I know I'm the one that's not on board with it but it won't hurt to imagine, would it?" He chucked. I decided not to answer him. I just leaned on the kitchen counter and looked around. Then get down on your damn knee and fix this.
Our kitchen table is in the corner with the seats built into the wall like a booth at a restaurant. We have wooden cabinets and marble counters. I looked down at the floor tiles, the hardest and longest thing I worked on. I made it myself and I loved the African symbol on it, the symbol for unity. Glenn loves that I try to connect with my African roots in different ways. I kind of grew up around it since it was Mom's job but I'll tell you about that later.
"You in your beautiful dress, maybe a flower behind your ear, wonderful vows by yours truly, and the dancing, you in my arms moving across the dance floor." He pulled me into his arms and we danced around the kitchen. Sometimes I think Glenn is the girl in our relationship.
"Javier, get your ass in here!" Whitney yelled from the living room causing me to groan. In junior year of high school I had to pick out a Spanish name for myself. I wanted to be different so I picked a guy's name. Not the best idea I've ever had. I was a tomboy and was always confused for a boy. "Hurry up, you have to see this! Get in here before it ends!" Taking my time I poured the popcorn into a bowl. "Simone Javier Maze! Get your black, small boob, no having ass out here!" She continued. That's not my middle name and you know I'm sensitive about my body! I calmly walked into the hallway. "Give me some popcorn."
I slapped her hand away from the bowl. "Touch my popcorn and you will wake up on the hospital blind in one eye and that will just be a warning." I threatened. Whitney slowly put her hand back in her lap. "Now what's so damn important that you insulted my ass? It's been growing. Doesn't that count?" When Whitney didn't answer I looked up at the TV then groaned.
