Chapter 2: The Diamond

Jason laughed at losing his innocence to some stranger in New York. Who would’ve thought? He had always dreamt about saving himself for that special woman… The woman he loved and the woman who loved him ba…

Stop,’ he scolded himself mentally as the images of the familiar blond haired beauty appeared in his mind. Trying to make her happy, he made the most heart breaking decision on leaving her. Attempting to forget about her completely, he got drunk, lost his virginity to a stranger and still thought about her after the whole ordeal! Jason clenched his fists, why did she have this much effect on him?

Spinning on his heels a sparkle caught his eyes. He swiveled his head trying to catch that same pink glimmer but didn’t see it. Taking a few steps back and placing himself in the same position he was before turning around, he then proceeded to slowly turn around. His eyes instantly saw the glimmering object and slowly walked closer so he wouldn’t lose it from sight.

Bending down he picked up a small pink diamond. Its smooth surface shone brightly with the light and sent different colors flying onto the wall as it reflected. The jagged base of the stone made him flip it over. Where the bottom tip of the diamond was supposed to be, it was broken off. Jason scrunched his eyes at remembering that diamond is a tough stone that takes a lot to break. It usually has to be cut with high-tech equipment. Taking a closer look at it, he saw that the edges of the diamond were somewhat smoothed out. It had an antique cut so he assumed it was from an old piece of jewelry.

He walked to his suitcase and opened the zipper, dropping the tiny stone inside the small pocket. His phone ringing again snapped his attention. The caller ID flashed the word that made him groan loudly, MOM. Debating whether to answer it or not; he knew she would pester him until he did.

Sliding the green image across the screen he answered, “Hello?”

“It’s about time you picked up your phone! I thought you were dead!” she screamed from the other line.

“Hello to you too mother,” he sighed, only his mom would over react like this.

“Where were you? Why weren’t you answering your phone? Seriously son, I was worried. I thought you might’ve been kidnapped, shot down, or something!” She screamed in panic again with a hint of amusement in her tone.

“I’m not a kid anymore mom. I can handle myself,” he paused and continued, “My flight leaves in about six hours, so I’ll meet you there.”

“Can you blame me? My son, who doesn’t even know how to work a damn coffee maker, is all by himself in the big apple! Oh well, just get here safely. I love you and Connor says hi,” she giggled. “Stop it! Connor!” She squealed, making Jason roll his eyes. Leave it to Connor to flirt with his mom while they were on the phone.

“Hey Jay. Your mom’s already prepared your room. See you soon and have a safe flight,” the line went dead.

Jason sighed frustratingly, trying to forget about her mother’s horrid giggle. Connor was a very kind and patient man, who loved his mother dearly. He definitely approved of him. On the other hand, Jason hated spending time with them. They had always acted like complete teenagers, flirting and messing around. And to think they’re only engaged! Jason groaned, trying to think about future plans. Maybe he’s just stay for the wedding and leave. He really didn’t want to see his mom and Connor get all cozy. It’s awkward and just plain weird.

Jason felt pain shoot through his chest again. Why can’t that be him? Why can’t he find someone who’d complete him, just like Connor and his mother or even Leila and Mason? Taking a deep breath, he hoped that something good would come out of his trip to England.

Shrugging off all of the heartbreaking thoughts and painful memories, he managed to finish packing with five hours to spare. He decided on going down to a small café and eating his brunch there.

Jason managed to reach the small café within five minutes and quickly ordered himself a steamy hot cup of coffee and some cinnamon rolls. Upon observing the crowded café, he only spotted one available seat left.

“Is this seat taken?” He murmured, looking at a woman whose eyes were glued to a magazine.

“No. Go ahead and have a seat,” she waved him off with her hand and continued to read.

Jason sat down and began to drink his coffee; his eyes looked over her flowing auburn hair. He closed his eyes tightly, feeling a migraine hit him once again.

“Everything alright?” Her big brown eyes stared at him questioningly.

“Y-yes,” he stammered, looking over her beautiful features. With her high cheekbones and strong jaw line, she looked like a runway model. Something about her looked so familiar, which is why he couldn’t stop himself from asking aloud, “Have we met before?”

Her eyebrows scrunched together as she exhaled loudly, “I don’t think we have. Don’t try pulling any of those stupid pickup lines on me, buddy. I am not falling for any of those dirty tricks of yours.”

At that, he laughed loudly. He felt all of his burdens lift off his shoulders for once. “Don’t worry. I’m not trying to hit on you. You just looked familiar that’s all.” He glanced down his clock and noticed that he had four hours left. He got up and exhaled loudly. “It was nice talking to you.”

“Same to you,” she nodded, looking back at her magazine.

Jason went back to his hotel room and took a two hour nap, hoping that he’d have a recollection of what happened the night before. Once he awoke, he still has not remembered anything but how fiery and breathtaking her kisses were. He wanted to visit the bar, but it was only opened during the night.

Willing himself to forget about the night of drunken mistake, he checked out of the hotel room and headed for the airport. He hoped that the trip would help him forget…

If only he knew that forgetting about that night was the last thing he’d ever do…
