Emily's POV
Today was the first day of Senior year. As always I was waiting for my best friend, Jake. We've been best friends since we could remember, our moms were really good friends so we would always hangout at each other's houses. He also happened to live next door. It was a tradition that we would always walk to school on the first day with each other, of course when we got old enough..but now we're legal, so Jake drives me to school everyday.

"Yo Emily, are you ready for senior year ?" Jake  asked walking across the yard to where I was standing.

"Hell yeah, I'm so ready to get out of this place" I started walking towards the school, Jake right behind me.

I wasn't lying, I was excited to leave my school because other than Jake, I didn't really have that many friends. I had him so I never thought I needed anyone else. He was so much better than girl friends though. He would let me rant and not try to make a comeback or flip my words around. It sucks that after this year I'm moving away from him and my family for college. I'm going to UCLA on a softball scholarship and Jake is staying here studying at Michigan State. Of course I told him that we would still talk all the time and keep in touch. He has already bought tickets to a couple of my softball games even. But it still won't be the same without him being there physically every single day at school. I guess I could make new friends, right?

"So do you think you'll make the baseball team this year?" I say already knowing the answer just to mess with him.

"Uhhh." He pretended to think about it for a second. "No, I was thinking about running track instead this year." He told me making sure to emphasize on the sarcasm in his voice. I playfully smacked his arm as we walked in the doors to school.

Right away he saw his 2 friends, Sam & Brandon. They came up to him and did their weird handshake thing. Since I've been hanging around Jake for so long, they even pulled me into a hug and we all said our hello's.

It was now 8:30 and school was starting. I pulled at a pencil and blankly looked at what was on the whiteboard. The day went by pretty fast, the first day is probably the most boring day. I've been hearing the same rules for 4 years now, you'd think I'd know them by now.

I was standing outside waiting on Jake to take me home. I looked up and saw him walking my way with a huge grin on his face. *oh great, what does he have in mind*

"That was the most fun day out of my life." Once again with the sarcasm totally noticeable in his voice. "You wanna go for a drive before we go home?" He asked starting his car.

I loved when we did this, if we were both home not doing anything we would go out in the country roads, drive through the back roads and enjoy the scenery. It was a great stress reliever, which was good for both of us.

"Yes, hand me the aux, we're about to turn up!" I said silently hitting myself for sounding so cringe. Obviously Jake was thinking it too because he looked at me and said, "Remind me again why we're friends?"

We drove around for hours just talking, laughing, singing, and damn I'm gonna miss this after this year. I glanced over at Jake, his hair was flowing in the wind, he had the biggest smile, and he was having the time of his life. I loved seeing him happy, especially after having such a rough childhood. It made my heart melt at the sight.

"What are you thinking about?" He asked obviously noticing that I was staring.

"O-oh nothing, I'm just really gonna miss this when I'm gone.." I turned my head towards the window so he couldn't see the tear that was forming in my eye.

"Hey, don't think about that right now, we have all summer together, quote me on this, it will be the BEST summer we've had." He said making me shyly smile at his enthusiasm. I didn't doubt that he would make me happy. I just would hate to see it end so soon. But that's life, so I'm gonna have to deal with it.

We got home, it was around 11:00 pm so I went straight to bed. Although I didn't fall asleep until around 1:30 because I was just thinking about my future and how much I'm going to miss my best friend...
