It has been 2 years since the outbreak hit all the cities within 24 hours of each other. It was a virus that was cooked up in a lab and injected into 50 people who eventually turned into half dead humans and took over more than half of the damn world.
Just when I thought everything was okay, there was still hope, I lost the most amazing girl whom I loved and still love more than anything in this world. I lost her 5 months ago to an attack at our house, they got in through a stupid door I accidently left open thinking she was safe. She was still there when I got home hanging over the edge of the bathtub I told her to hide in if anything were to happen. Her neck was torn open and the bathroom was covered in blood. It looked like something out of a horror movie. I knew she struggled, there was bloody hand prints all over the floor and she had cut her hand on the door handle trying to close it. The bathtub was full of blood, she didn't make it to the safe room under the bathtub.
The worst was knowing that I had to let her go, she was going to turn whether I wanted her to or not. I cried, yelled, punched a hole through the wooden door and then I left. They turn a few hours after being bitten. So we had to pack up and leave as fast as possible.
No one was home when this happened but she stayed home because she felt sick. As I went into our bedroom to get everything I noticed a pregnancy test on the bed. I was terrified to look at it but we didn't have much time, we had to leave. Exactly as I had dreaded, it was positive and I broke down and fell to the floor. She was pregnant.
I can't explain the pain I felt in that moment. It was emotional pain that physically affected my heart, like my heart was aching. Nothing could compare to that pain. I packed up and we left. Atleast I still had the people we survived with 2 years ago at the start of it all and that seemed to be enough to keep me going.
