Taehyung and Yoongi had always been best friends.
Starting from the day Tae had pat the older boy's head in kindergarten, and the latter had spontaneously reacted by hugging him, they were inseparable.
At first, Yoongi didn't talk much, but Tae was okay with that. He would simply do the talking for the both of them and Yoongi accepted that. He was the only person who didn't get annoyed by the younger's babbling.
And as time went by, Yoongi even started talking more and more. He was still a rather quiet child, but when he was with his best friend, he would soon talk like there's no tomorrow, which filled the latter with pride. Taehyung knew that he was the only person that could make Yoongi talk and laugh so much and he loved it.
He loved seeing his best friend happy.
One time, two older boys had made fun of Yoongi's gummy smile. Tae had gotten very mad and screamed at the both of them, which resulted in all of them having to go home early.
The next day, he had searched for his friend for hours, until he found him crying behind some bushes.
That was the day that Taehyung took it upon himself to never let Yoongi become unhappy again.
And like that, they survived kindergarten, with Tae protecting Yoongi and getting in trouble because of that. Yoongi would constantly apologize, but the younger told him he didn't mind and that, in fact, he loved taking care of his friend.
When they finally started going to school, nothing changed, at least in the first few months. But as time went by, Tae started finding new friends. Yoongi didn't blame him or any of them. He knew that it was only natural for somebody as kind and adorable as Tae to find many friends, but he couldn't help feeling a small pang in his chest whenever he watched his best friend playing with other kids.
Tae, however, was oblivious to Yoongi's feelings. He thought the older one liked his new friends too and all he wanted was for them all to get along well.
One day, while Yoongi was still studying inside, Tae played hide and seek with the other kids. Jungkook was almost done counting when Tae finally found a hiding spot.
He quickly jumped behind the bush and was met with a loud groan. He looked down to see a pained looking Namjoon. The older was holding his nose and Tae immediately panicked. He apologized countless times, checking his friend's face for any signs of a serious injury, even after Namjoon told him he was okay.
The latter heard Jungkook approaching and immediately covered the mouth of the chatty boy beside him, looking at him with a warning expression.
Jungkook was soon gone again and Namjoon slowly took his hands from Tae's mouth. The latter let out a dramatic gasp, scolding the older boy who only giggled.
They heard Jungkook scream "GOTCHA" a few meters next to them and Namjoon slowly peeked out of the bush when he heard a soft girlish voice answering. Tae frowned at his friend's dreamy gaze and nudged him curiously.
"Why are you so happy?", he asked with furrowed eyebrows.
"Did you see that girl that got caught just now?"
"Nayeon?", Tae asked and the older nodded, "What about her?"
"Isn't she cute?", Namjoon tried sneaking a peak at his crush again, but Tae quickly pulled him back down by his shirt. He didn't want them to get caught. "Yes, she's nice", he answered his friend's previous question.
