Elara leaned against a wall, watching the busy market place. It was full of merchants advertising their goods. She was trying to find her target, the one that happened to have a certain necklace that the Thieves Guild had their eye on.
It has been a few weeks since she made it down to Riften after the big dragon attack at Helgen and after being separated from her sister, she was worried about her, but she knew she would be alright.
After a few more minutes of waiting she found the guy she was looking for, Bolli. He was Nordic man who ran the Riften Fishery. This wasn't the first time she was stealing from him. No the first time was when she was getting the mark of Dibella.
Elara followed the fisherman from afar, waiting for him to go back out to the docks or for him to go home, both where she can steal without getting caught. Once more after a few minutes, he started to walk towards the docks, she followed acting like she was looking at things every few seconds. Once to the docks, she quickly stole the necklace out his back pocket and started her way back to the Ragged Flagon, taking the long way back. She did not want to tell Mercer that she didn't go to Whiterun for the job giving by Maven yet. She didn't want to go back there, bad memories.
She entered the solemn lit tavern, she had heard it used to be filled, like a city under the city but something happened, a "curse" is what Delvin called it but she was sure it was something else. She walked around the pool of water, up the old wooden ramp to see Delvin sitting at a table drinking from a bottle, it was probably mead.
"I finished the job, here's the necklace Mallory," she said handing him the silver and ruby necklace, smiling as she did so.
"Good work and no problems it seems, here's your pay," he said, handing Elara a coin-purse.
She nodded, showing a thanks before she asked, "anymore more jobs I can take?"
He shook his head, showing the answer that made Elara disappointed, "Mercer said not to give you anymore jobs until you go to Whiterun."
Elara sighed, "can I at least have a few jobs to do there well I'm at it?" Delvin nodded and gave Elara a list of targets. She nodded before walking out of the Ragged Flagon, and started her trip to Whiterun.
Not that far away from Ivarstead, it started to grow dark so she sets up camp by a few trees, away from the road. She started her campfire and placed her bedroll close by it. She sat there before going off to sleep. She had decided if she woke up early, she could make it to Ivarstead alittle after then make it to Riverwood before dark, or slightly after.
-Time Skip-
Elara woke up early that morning like she planned, ate the bread and drank the mead she had packed before heading off to Ivarstead. Soon, she made it to the little town at the foot of the famous mountain. She entered Vilemyr Inn, seeing that it was very empty and quiet, only sounds being the a lute and the fire. She headed over to the innkeeper hoping to buy some some more bread for her trip.
"Hello Wilhelm, I'm not going to be here long, but I was wondering if I can buy some bread for my trip," she wondered kindly to the innkeeper. This wasn't the first time she talked to him. She had come here last week to deliver some Black-Briar mead from Romlyn Dreth.
"Why hello Elara. I'm making a batch of bread right now, it should be done soon, if you feel like waiting that is," he answered her. Elara smiled and nodded, sure it ruined her whole schedule, but it means it'll take longer to get to Whiterun.
"I'm fine with waiting Wilhelm, any rumors?" She asked, she learned Innkeepers usually have the best rumors.
"Hmm, Have you see the shrine of Azura? I heard it's a sight to see." He asked.
"I passed it on my way to Winterhold, but haven't went to it, seems like a waste of time. Anymore?"
Wilhelm stopped to think for a moment before answering, "There been rumors of the Dragonborn. Saying he's, or rather she's, back. In fact I bet that young lady who came by some time ago asking about the mountain might have been her, he said.
Elara looked surprised for a moment. "Dragonborn? You mean the one from legends? That's amazing," she said.
"Anyways, I think the bread might be done, let me go check," Wilhelm said before heading to check the stone stove that was in the back. Elara smiled slightly before going to sit in one of the chairs by the fire. She listened to the sound of the lute, playing softly in the background. Wilhelm came back with the plate of fresh bread and placed two in a small sack before going over and handed it to Elara, "here you are, enjoy your trip, he said, smiling.
"Thanks Wilhelm, I'll see you soon," she said before handing him a small coin-purse to pay for the bread before walking back outside, into the nice cold air of the town. She pulled out her map, looking at the landscapes and faded lines that showed the paths. After a few minutes, she found what she believed to be the quickest way and went across the bridge, crossing the lake to the area where she could slightly see the cave that led to the ancient ruins, Geirmund's Hall, which were ruins she wanted to explore the next time she wasn't busy. As she walked, she wished she had a horse, but no, it seemed like too much to take care of, and they're expensive, especially in Riften because everyone tries cheating you out of deals. She walked for a good few hours until she had noticed the change of scenery, the leaves of the trees weren't the colors of orange, red and yellow anymore, in fact the leaves were just green now with pine trees every now and then, as well as there was now snow on the ground.
I must at least be close to Helgen, she thought as she looked around her, then up to the sky, the sun looked like it should be going down, meaning she had been walking for a few hours. She looked at her map again, she figured she's at least closed to Helgen, the small town that was destroyed by that dragon. Now that she thought about it alittle more, dragons seem to always be where the Dragonborn happens to be, maybe they were there too?
Elara was soon cut out of her thoughts by the sound of a small pack of wolves. This wasn't the first time she had come across things that were trying to kill her on this trip. Along the way she had come across trolls, bandits, a bear and a few wolves, even a vampire that tried to make her think he was a Vigilant of Stendarr. She pulled out her bow, it was a daedric one her sister made for her back in Riverwood when they lived there for a few years. She drew back the string, ready to fire the arrow when the wolves start to howl before running at her. She let go of the string and the arrow goes flying into the eye of the first wolf. Another one tries to bite at her arm, but she stopped it by smacking it with the tip of her bow, knowing it to the ground before grabbing her dagger and stabbing it in the snout. The last wolf jumps at the young thief, and bit her arm. She tried her best not to cry out from the pain as she stabbed the wolf that bit her, over and over again, until it loosened the grip on her arm and fell to the ground, dead.
She opened her knapsack, looking for a healing potion, only to find that she only had half of one left. She sighed before opening the bottle of the bitter healing potion and drank the rest of it before putting the now empty bottle into her bag, before going back to her walk, ignoring the feeling of her wounds healing. She looked at the flowing river next to her. She knew that river, it was the White River that flowed from Lake Ilinalta, the lake she visited a few times when she was younger. She never swam in it though because it was known to be filled with slaughterfish.
A few minutes later she made it to Riverwood right as it started to get darker. She smiled slightly, knowing she could just stay a night here in the inn before heading to Whiterun. She headed towards the inn and opens the door. Unlike Vilemyr Inn, this one was slightly crowded and noisy, people drinking and laughing, the bard singing Ragnar the Red, and people talking. Elara sighed at the noise and heads towards Orgnar, "give me a room for the night," She said as she gave him 10 gold coins.
"Alright, your room is the first room to the left, the one farther from us," he said as he pointed to the room with no door. Elara nodded a thanks before going to the room, placing her knapsack in the chair next to the bed before taking off her boots, gloves and hood before laying down on the bed, soon falling asleep for the night.
