Kendall's POV
The next day dragged on slowly. Usually, I supplemented my boredom by talking to Brendon at various points in my day and then the Skype call at the end of the day was usually my motivation. However, I didn't bother him today, knowing he was going to be busy.To my surprise, I got a text from an old friend while I was sitting in class.
From: Jake
Hey, how's it going?Hi, things are going well. College, studying... you know.
That's good. Are you busy? I wanted to talk to you.
I'm in class, so I might not respond too quickly, but we can talk. Is everything okay?
I just wanted to give you a heads up, Brendon lied to you about being tired. He was at a party last night.
I stared at my phone and then rolled my eyes. Why was I not surprised? What's more, why was I unfazed?
Who was he with?
Ryan, Spencer and some guy named Devon. He was drunk off his ass. I want to tell you more but I think a phone call would be better to talk. Call me when you're out of class.
I put my phone in my pocket and redirected my attention to my professor, who was assigning us our final project.
"You are to paint something - or someone, if you'd rather - that brings you emotion and fuels your motivation for the trifles of life. Then, you will write a ten page essay about those feelings, and what you interpret them as. You will turn this is on or before May 18th, the last day of the semester. Class dismissed."
I slung my bag around my shoulder and walked out of the building in search of fresh air. Finding a secluded bench in the sunlight, I sat down and called Jake.
"Hey," he greeted, "you out of class?"
"Yeah," I replied. "Let's talk."
"Okay, but before I tell you anything, you have to know something." I hummed. "I'm not trying to break you two up or anything. I just think you should know what he was saying last night."
"Oookay..." I sighed.
Jake continued to tell me about how Brendon worried about our relationship and worried that he wasn't enough for me. He also added that Brendon seemed to be paranoid about being with me. All of this confused me, but maybe the distance was getting to us both.
"Still there?" Jake asked after he finished informing me of my boyfriend's apprehension.
"Yes."
"Are you okay?"
"Yes. I'm really not surprised at all," I admitted. "Brendon seems to have this problem with not trusting me. It's obviously time to deal with it."
"Just remember what I said," Jake advised. "I didn't tell you this to break you two up."
"Okay," I agreed. "Thank you for letting me know, Jake. I appreciate it."
"Yup," he said, then hung up. What is it with guys never saying goodbye?
I immediately called Brendon. At first, he didn't answer, but I called him again, and he picked up.
