Don't Just Fade Away

I'm not afraid to lose you,

And I'm not afraid to miss you,

No, I'm not afraid to say goodbye,

Or a shed a tear in your memory.

What plagues my thoughts and dreams,

As you slowly drift into an abyss,

Is where you will go,

After we say our last goodbyes.

I don't fear for myself,

And I don't fear living without you,

I fear what you fear,

I fear you facing the unknown alone.

I begged you not to let go quite yet,

But we all know it's not up to you.

It's killing me to see you fading away,

To see the life leaving your bright eyes.

You're embarking on a new journey without me,

A journey that no one has ever returned from,

A journey where no one is sure what lies ahead,

If anything lies ahead at all.

I'm afraid you'll drift into nothingness,

All of your beautiful thoughts and dreams,

All of our sweet memories and plans,

Will fade away and be lost forever.

Yes, I know I'll miss you,

And I hope you'll miss me too.

But, I also hope that I'll see you again someday,

Beyond this world that we know.

You're eyes are fading,

What was once a lively blue,

Has become a grey pool,

Your journey has begun.

But, don't be afraid, my love,

Someday I'll join you,

I'll follow you into the end,

And whatever lies beyond.

I know what I hope,

That you and your thoughts will still exist somewhere,

But I can only hope and wait,

Wait until it's my turn to venture into death.

Keep my love safe after death,

And cling to your memories,

Don't simply fade away.

I can't ever let you fade.
