It is Friday night. Nobody seems to notice the screeching sound coming from the study room of Samantha's house. Everyone seems too occupied by their thoughts and too engulfed by their own conversation. The pool area is occupied by a number of couples doing their stuff. Cigarette butts and cans of beer are visible all over the place. The music is loud and the night is deep. The whole house is dark but flashes of light from the disco balls illuminate the place. All are ecstatic except one.

Beth seems so oblivious of the cheering that her other classmates are doing in the living room. At this moment, the living room has turned out to be a dance floor. Despite the raging crowd, her attention is caught and stuck on the noise from the study room. She manages to escape from the partying mob and ascends to the stairs that lead to the corridor next to the study room. She has been hearing the sound since the moment the party has started. She is too anxious and curios at the same time. As she walks closer to the door, the sound grows louder and louder. Her breathing becomes heavier than usual and her heart beats in a faster pace. She is too curious to see what or who is behind the screeching sound. The more she thinks of it, the more curious she becomes. Her curiosity is now growing bigger than her fear and her heart is beating louder than the music of the night.

She stops in front of the study room. She finds the door ajar. She looks at her back to see if there is at least a single soul aside from her. The party is still alive and the loud music is still on. The corridor looks deserted and haunted in pitch black. Upon realizing her solitude, she holds the knob and slowly moves her face to the opening. She peeps through the narrow opening only to see darkness. She still hears the sound but the room is too dark for her to see anything or anyone. She releases a deep breath and holds the knob more tightly. She can feel her knees shaking and her hands being numb. She pushes the door and finds herself in a void. Darkness eats her.

The curiosity that once shoved her to see the place slowly vanishes and replaces by fear. She looks to her right and sees nothing. She looks to her left and sees the same. She looks back to head for the door which is now gone. She looks above her, hoping for an escape. She looks to her feet. Everywhere is darkness. She freezes from where she is standing. She can feel the tears welling up from her eyes as the sound grows louder and closer. Suddenly, it stops. She stands there, rigid. All she can hear now is her own heartbeat and the heavy breathing which she thinks is hers but is not. After few seconds, she hears footsteps. Whatever is in the darkness, it is coming closer to her. She knows it. She feels it. She senses terror, horror, and dread. She closes her eyes and utters a silent prayer. In spite of the frightful sound, she bravely opens her eyes. After a moment, she tilts her head to her right. She feels like she is soaked in cold water as she discovers herself staring to a pair of glowing eyes. The eyes which are glowing in bright red give her a heavy glare. They radiate hunger, blood thirst, and pandemonium. Beth, on the other hand, reciprocates them with fear; pure fear of the unknown.

As the creature walks closer, the room becomes a bit brighter, or at least in her confused mind. Beth steps back when she sees a set of bloody fangs which are bit by bit forming visibly from the face of the monster. She starts to cry. She opens her mouth to express her terror but nothing comes out. The creature of darkness walks closer to her. The panic she is feeling grows worse. She opens her mouth again and tries to talk. Finally, words become audible.

"Wh...who are you?", she said with a shaky voice. However, the monster responds which sounds like a hish. She repeats herself, more loudly this time.

"I said who are you?"

As an answer, the monster steps forward. Beth looks lower and sees what look like talons.

"Wh...what...are...you?". She steps backward and hopes for an escape. She knows what is coming and she definitely does not like it.
