"Autumn Winters!!! You're on deck!" Carson Daly called out to the 16 year old sophomore.
Autumn took a deep breath and closed her eyes. She couldn't believe she was doing this. She couldn't believe she was auditioning for The Voice. This is not just a dream that she has awoken up from at night with a smile on her face. This is the real deal. She is actually about to sing in front of Adam Levine, Shakira, Usher, and Blake Shelton. She is actually going to start her music career on this show. Hopefully, it'll bring her far. This was just an idea a few years ago that she desperately forced down her parents' throats. She's heard a lot of "We'll sees." But this, this right now is actually happening! Cameras have been following her all day but she doubts that they got anything interesting for her story. Her parents could only afford to send her to the audition site at Washington D.C. So, she was alone. She did have a few phone calls with her parents that the cameramen got. The producers asked her to talk about her life but that's one thing she hated; talking about herself. It made her feel really uncomfortable. She's sure that she would bore America with her high school story and being the salutatorian so far in her class. And that's even if her story was interesting enough to put on TV. After all, Autumn Winters is only an average girl. She's nothing special. She wears her hair in ponytails constantly because it takes too long to actually do her hair. (Well she used to. This stopped after she made the impulsive decision to cut her hair before the audition. She asked for the "Take A Bow" haircut) Acne covers her face and she knows that she's overweight. Yup. She's your average teenager.
Autumn stops herself. Why does she always constantly think negatively about herself before she goes and does something big? This happened before she presented her proposal to the principal to have video announcements at her school and before her leading role in Wicked. However, the outcome of those actually ended up well. Maybe it's almost a ritual to her to think negatively before a big performance or presentation. Maybe that's what fuels her to do so well.
She could be the average teenage girl with the Voice! Now that's the way she should be thinking. Not to mention the fact that she made it this far: Past all the producers, and callbacks. They obviously liked something about her.
"Hi, Autumn Winters!" Carson Daly said with his announcer voice as he walked up to her. She chuckled. "Just about to get more possible footage for the show."
"Oh my gosh. I can't believe Carson Daly just said hi to me!" Autumn said as her cheeks puffed out. "This is so surreal!"
"Oh. You're so adorable." Carson said chuckling. "Why did you choose to try out for the Voice and not other singing competitions?"
"Well, I think The Voice is what defines me more as an artist and a performer. However, I did think about other singing competitions. But, those other shows focus too much on image and make-up and smokes and mirrors instead of actual talent. That's what I admire about this show. They're not judging how you look or even your personality. They're just judging your talent. And you can't find that anywhere else."
"Thank you Autumn."
"Oh, and I love Usher, I've always wanted to meet him and now I get the chance." Autumn added shyly.
"So Usher was the dealbreaker?"
Autumn laughed. "Yeah. I guess you could say that."
"Okay, Autumn. You're about to go on. You're the last audition of the day and they've been at it for a while . You have to impress them. They're kind of distracted and all over the place, especially Adam." Carson advised.
"Thank you Carson. I will impress them. I will blow their socks off!"
Carson looked around uncomfortably.
