THE SILVER BELL
(Psychic Detective Mysteries #3)
CHAPTER ONE
The
doorbell rang and I flew to open it.
"Mum," I called out, "the taxi's here!"
I showed the driver all the bags in the hallway and together we carried them to the car.
Mum followed a few moments later, checking the doors were shut and the front door locked properly, before joining us in the cab.
"Evening ladies, do you know which terminal you're flying from?"
"Terminal three," Mum replied.
"Going anywhere nice?"
"Vancouver," I smiled, "we're going skiing."
"Oh, I see now why you're taking so much luggage."
"You're lucky I stopped her from buying the entire shop!" Mum joked.
I laughed then, because that was true.
She had told me not to buy everything I wanted because I might not like skiing and would never use it.
I knew that Mum was wrong, however.
I had been wanted to ski for a long time, ever since my best friend Annabel had gone on her sixteenth birthday.
We had also been practising together once a week at the local artificial ski slope, so I knew I enjoyed it.
We'd had such a great time there last week, along with my cousin, Karina.
Who had fallen over a lot.
But I'd only fallen over once, when I was trying to stop.
Annabel said I was a 'natural'.
Annabel had then given me her lucky red earmuffs, which had saved her when she had been buried in an avalanche and they had been spotted in the snow.
She made me promise to wear them, as well as the lucky charm bracelet that she had given me as a present on my 16th birthday.
She'd bought me one exactly the same as hers because I kept saying I liked it.
I agreed to take them and wear the earmuffs while I was skiing, but not the bracelet in case I lost it.
I had also seen my boyfriend Julian last night and we had a romantic meal together before he'd given me a silver heart charm to add to my bracelet.
"Thanks, Jules, it's lovely!" I smiled at him.
