Samantha's POV

After a lunchtime of awkwardness, the bell rang, saving Genevieve from permanently staying a tomato. Adrian quickly scarpered out of the chair, swinging his bag onto his back, before sprinting out of the cafeteria.

"Drama next, Sam," Jordan muttered before shuffling out of the cafeteria, his face chalky white as he stared at his phone. I narrowed my eyes at his retreating back. Jordan always walked with me to Drama because Year 10 and 11 shared the same Drama class. During lunch, whenever his phone vibrated, Jordan would immediately snatch it up and stare at the screen before furiously typing a reply.

His vague excuse of 'it's my mum' didn't work for me. I knew for a fact that Jordan's mum had disappeared mysteriously a couple of years ago. Like Lucy had. I scrunched my nose as I thought of Lucy Morgan.

Lucy was what every child's ideal mum was. She was cool, fun and laid-back. That's what all my friends would tell me. I would nod along, believing what they said. Whenever I came home, she would have chocolate chip cookies waiting for me and Adrian, a bright smile lighting her face. When we were younger, every night she would read us a bedtime story and kiss our foreheads good night.

That was until I started high school. She started to disappear frequently, often coming back at 3 in the morning. Adrian and I would be waiting patiently by the door to assist our mum. And then on the fateful night of my thirteenth, Lucy Morgan disappeared all together, leaving Dad with a pile of bills, all from her guilty plea , sure.

Now we barely saw Dad anymore, which led to Adrian's bad behaviour and wild parties. Whenever Dad was home from his business trips, he would lock himself in his room to mope over Lucy.

"Sammy?"

I was jolted back to the present as I looked at Genevieve's face. The whole cafeteria was empty now, as the sound of footsteps faded away. i took a deep breath to calm myself and pushed all thoughts of Lucy away, forcing a smile on my face.

"Sorry I was just thinking about Jordan," I lied. Gen looked uncertain but seemed to buy the white lie.

We eased into conversation on the way to Drama. Genevieve had moved here with her Dad because her Mum had passed away and he couldn't bear to stay in the same house. We arrived at the door and I froze, suddenly scared of who was in the room.

"They're in that room," I whispered. Of course! How could I forget? Ughh I'm going to be in hell for this lesson. Katlyn will be dumping all my secrets to everyone in this class.

I could see Katlyn flipping her glossy blonde hair over her shoulder, her shimmering lips shining in the light as she gossiped with Jennifer. She looked up as she saw me, flashing a sickly sweet smile at me, before continuing her gossiping in a louder tone.

I clenched my fist as Katlyn slyly winked at me before telling the whole class another one of my secrets.

"When Sammy was five, she was climbing a tree. But then she slipped and fell out straight onto Jordan. Sammy was so heavy that she broke Jordan's leg. " I felt a twinge of panic and tears started to well up in my eyes. I quickly blinked them away.

You might be wondering why that would be a little secret of mine. It isn't. But it's what led up to the secret. Nobody knew my big dirty secret except for Katlyn and a few therapists. I squeezed my eyes shut, preparing for the worst. I don't want to relive this again.

"From that day on, Samantha was never the same," I could hear the sneer in Katlyn's voice. "She started to worry about her weight and started to self harm."

The whole class gasped in shock and started to murmur amongst themselves. "So that's why she always wore long sleeves," William whispered, before looking up at me with big tearing eyes. Aimee said. " Why would Jordan want some insecure girl, when he could have me?"
