Passion

Burnt in my head,
Charred was his soul.
Deep was his voice,
And mesmerized, it left me.

Dark as midnight, His eyes
Captured me in too deep.
I'd never given it much thought, but
His eyes did mirror his soul.

We thought we'd stay safe,
We tried hard not to fall.
But it just wasn't in our fate,
As bad as a death race, we failed.

Tumbling across the gate to hell,
We hesitated, then stormed in.
Together we set the place ablaze,
But were scorched ourselves.

We'd thought we could handle it,
I believed we could.
But faith is an illusion, that I knew,
I wasn't ready to know love was too.

Falling unfathomably deep,
I tried, but couldn't rise again.
That's when he flew out,
And kept on going without me.

The flames were diffused,
The spark between us now dormant.
We never saw each other again,
I felt it was for the best.

Until the day before my last breath,
I saw him, this time,
Much frailer and slower than before.
He looked at me and....
And the spark flared up again.

I left the world of desire and suffering,
To reside in the world of serenity.
After all, the stars had made the match,
It wasn't meant to fail.

He followed me while I lay in wait,
For a few tortorously long days.
Then, he held my gaze and said,
"You didn't die due to the cold, but due to the flames.
The flames of passion that swallowed both of us whole."
