Hi all, so this is my first fanfic, i wrote this with a friend while camping and we've just decided to put it up!   We're huge harry potter fans and so we thought about writing a fanfic. This is a continue on from after the battle, when they were on the bridge, but from the book point of view as in the film harry doesn't repair his wand. We've used existing mythical creatures, but have added our own! sorry for this being such a short story and sorry for any spelling or grammar mistakes... i will try to make sure everything is perfect for you guys! HOPE YOU ENJOY - Ash (:

Hermione was gripping his hand tight and for the first time since he left privet drive, he felt truly safe.

The battle had ceased, silence loomed over the ruins but Harry's head was still buzzing. The Past few hours were a blur, he never wanted this to happen, never wanted anyone to die for him, not Fred, not Lupin or Tonks. He then thought of Sirius, Dumbledore, his parents ... Snape.

"The Elder Wand!" cried Ron " THE ELDERWAND!"

"Well if you ask me, that wand is more trouble than its worth" said Hermione. Harry wasn't listening to what they were saying , although he was aware that their eyes were on him but he did not meet them, instead he was taking in the historical castle that now stood before him as ruble.

Hogwarts has been his first real home, the first place where he had felt happy.

"HARRY!" Hermione said sharply. Harry was pulled back from his thoughts, his first impression was that the battle had re-started. He reached into his pocket to draw out his wand when he heard a distant song of dreaded beauty.

The Phoenix song was the loudest and most angelic Harry had ever heard it. As he listened to the cry of the magical bird he thought of all those grieving. He thought of the Wesley's, who had done everything to protect him, treated him like family. He thought of little Teddy Lupin, who was far away from here without a clue what was happening, not knowing his parents were dead, he would grow up, like Harry, with only stories of his parents. He hoped he would be as good a godfather to Teddy as Sirius had been to him.

Suddenly thousands of ting golden glowing lights appeared out of thin air, everywhere. Hermione squealed while Ron gasped.

"Soulspheres" whispered Hermione as she stepped forward to examine the nearest one.

"Excuse me?" said Ron

"Soulspheres," said Hermione "Professor Slughorn mentioned them last year in potions , they're one of the few creatures that are never used when making potions because they are impossible to catch and are seen very rarely." she finished.

"Right," said Ron with a puzzled expression "but that doesn't explain what they are or what they are doing here!"

Hermione sighed, turning her back on the boys to look at the distant Quiddich pitch to look that was still issuing a lot of smoke. " soulspheres only appear at a time after death! a sort of... remembrance symbol"

"Then why weren't there any when Dumbledore died?" injected Harry who had been silent until this point.

"They were there, but only one person had died so they weren't bright  or visible" Hermione explained.

"So they get brighter the more people that die at one time?" said harry who was developing a lump in his throat as he remembered that his fault that all those people had died.

"yes" replied Hermione in a hollow voice. They stood in silence for a few minutes, before Ron unexpectedly walked forward and stood in front of the nearest soulsphere.

"Ron?" Hermione questioned as she walked back to stand next to Harry, "Are you okay?" Ron didnt answer, he was still staring at the golden globe before him, he then raised his wand and started flicking it through the air. Harry and Hermione exchanged puzzled looks. Then Ron, still with his back to them, stepped back to admire his wand work, that's when Harry saw a single word carved into the air just below the soulsphere, reading... FRED.

"Oh Ron" Hermione whispered, with tears in her eyes. Ron walked back to them, Harry saw that he had blotchy cheeks and his ears were bright red. When he reatched the other two, he put his arm around hermiones shoulders as she hugged him. Harry didnt know what to do, Rons actions were unexpected. They stayed in silence for what felt like hours, Hermione giving the odd sniff.

"Come on, we should get back to everyone" said Hermione, breaking the silence. She pulled on Ron's hand and they both began walking back towards the castle, eyes red and puffy from crying.

"Wait!" Harry said "they're moving" Hermione and Ron both turned around to look at the soulsphere which was slowly rising in the air. The golden letters Ron had written, still hanging underneath. All three of them watched as all the spheres around the castle drifted up and out of sight. Harry heard the footsteps of Ron and Hermione heading back towards the castle. The phoenix song had started again and not wanting to fall back into his thoughts, Harry followed them.

Once back inside Ron and Hermione made towards Charlie and Bill who were both holding bottles of butterbeer, heads bowed. Harry however, walked towards Mrs. Weasley, hugging Ginny, who was pale and silent tears were running down her cheeks. Harry hated the sight of the Weasleys with sad expressions, he wanted to run away from everything, but he knew he couldn't. Ginny lifted her head from her mothers shoulder and saw Harry walking towards them. She let go of her mother and gave Harry a warm hug, he felt a burst of joy and happiness, which died away as he saw Mrs. Weasley's red face, which still had tears leaking down it. Harry let go of Ginny and headed towards Mrs. Weasley.

"Mrs. Weasley, I'm so sorr-" Harry began but was cut off by her giving him a huge hug.

"Harry, oh Harry, i'm so proud of you!" Mrs. Weasley said.

"It's all my fault that Fred's..." He couldn't bring himself to say it.

"Don't be silly Harry, dear. It's not your fault, by finishing you-know-who you've saved us all" She said giving him another hug then walking over to Mr. Weasley, Percy and George.

"What now?" Ron said. Harry had not seen him and Hermione walk over to Harry.

"Well i need to go to Australia" Hermione replied.

"What? Why?" Harry responded.

"Well, seeming as i survived this hunt for Horcruxes and You-know-who is gone, i better go remove the memory charm i placed on my parents"

"How long will it take?" Harry asked

"Australia is a massive country, it could take up to a year to find them" sighed Hermione

"I'll go with you" Ron said, taking her hand in his and smiling down at her.

"yeah me too," Harry agreed "you've stuck with me through all this, so i'm going to stick with you!" Hermione beamed at them.

"But not yet, i feel we need to be here" The boys nodded their heads, agreeing with Hermione.

"Yeah" harry agreed "come on, let's sit down"  They started to walk to one of the house tables.

"By the way, this time we need to pack some good food!" They all laughed at Ron's comment as they sat down.

"What will happen now?" Hermione spoke "you know? to the castle?"

"Re-build it i guess," said Ron "but i'm guessing it'll take more than a simple reaparo charm!" It was this joke that broke them, they found themselves not being able to stop laughing.

Harry was light-headed from laughing so much. He wasnt sure what he felt, but he was excited, his future was clear, Voldemort didn't fog over his path, he was free! He wasn't sure what would happen next, except finding Hermione's parents. What would happen when the three of them disapperated into the night?
