This is still incomplete and still being revised.
And if I didn't upload it now, it would have probably rotted away in my hard drive never to see the light of day.
Its longer than I first envisioned it to be, but I fell in love with the characters too much to cut it short and proceed into the main story line.
Update-
I've come to realize that this part of the story is more of a 'transition' from one Age to the Next. I'm currently finishing up the second part, it's sooo late because I haven't had a computer to write on >.<
Hope you like the conclusion of this 'mini' when it comes out.
And Thanks again for reading!

Book 1-"Timeless"
Transitions
Chapter 0-"The Oldest"
Its human nature to be afraid of the dark.
In the dark we imagine the most fearful, horrible, impossible thing our minds can muster up, waiting in the cover of the shadows. In our most fearful state, our senses heighten catching every little movement, every tiny sound, as our mind tries best it can to make sense of it all. And when it cannot, it creates something new, something completely terrifying, filling the void with all of our fears bringing to life a monster that had never existed before.
The darkness itself is nothing to be afraid of, it is only the medium in which the mind can manifest about our most intimate of fears, and of a particular fear that is held deep down in every human. The fear of the unknown.
And if being fearful of the dark meant being human, Corporal Jacob Hannery felt as 'human' as humanly possible, standing there surrounded by darkness, staring intently down the pitch black corridor under the constant flickering of the torchlight he had so perfectly positioned himself under. The only noises about were the soft crackle of the torch being burned, his constant gripping of his rifle, and his heart thumping, steadily racing to a faster beat. Anything else was purely his imagination running wild, but in that moment he couldn't tell.
Corporal Hannery had been given orders by his sergeant to wait at the upper level tunnels for the arrival of the Magebane, who the sergeant had requested the services of, to help with...
With what exactly? Hannery thought. He didn't know. No one did. He began to recall the event in his mind...
He and three of his comrades had been assigned to the forward party, trekking through unsecured locations of the catacombs. Their assigned mage had been called to another part of the tunnels, leaving the four alone.
They had just turned a corner when they spotted a large door and an unnatural silence fell over them all, not a sound could be heard or made. Confused, they signaled for Hannery to head back and get help as the other three decided to investigate further. Hannery hadn't even been given the chance to turn when a shadow appeared from nowhere, swallowing his comrades right before his eyes. He did the only thing his body would allow him to.
He ran.
He could feel it closing in behind him as he tried to call out for help but the sound from his voice, from his footsteps, from everywhere was silent, silenced by whatever magic was after him. He turned to see if he had, by any chance, escaped his pursuer, as his uncoordinated legs tangled themselves in the process, tumbling over in a painful roll and lying flat on ground. Even in pain, he still found the sense to turn his body over to see if it had truly pursued after him.
