There he was, standing in the doorway of our twelve o'clock English lecture looking like a fucking angel sent from heaven to bless us all with his very presence. He had died his hair red that semester, he was trying to get through the entire rainbow I was sure of it; he wore a black shirt that hung loosely off of his perfectly toned body and skinny jeans which didn't leave much to the imagination. I first developed my little crush on Josh in fourth grade on valentines day when he was the only one to give me a card, granted, he gave one to everyone because he was incredibly sweet like that. But the more i study him the more perfect he seems to become, i discovered he liked all the bands that i liked in sixth grade which didn't help my situation considering i was a huge fanboy for bands such as Fall out boy, Panic! At the disco and my chemical romance.
He walked into the class room clutching his small pile of books tightly, he was extremely shy to say the least, but that's another one of the many things i liked about him. He took his usual seat at the front of the class room and about five minutes later the lecture had started. Mr. Biersack walked into the room, greeted us all and started his lecture.
" Okay so today we're going to be looking at the paranormal", he started. I smiled a little and looked over to Josh who, as i guessed, looked up at Mr. Biersack with wide, eager eyes ; he loved the paranormal and everything to do with it, i knew he'd kill this lecture. Mr. Biersack clicked a button that turned the projector in the back of the room on and it proceeded to portray an image on the white board behind him. The image depicted a huge building, it looked extremely old and unkept, some of the windows were smashed and some even boarded up, there was also a huge iron gate in front of the property with vines growing over it. I recognised the building, it was actually a couple of blocks away from us and i walked past it everyday to get to school. Also my great grandfather founded the place and they were forced to shut down because of the amount of brutality shown towards the patients, treatments such as shock therapy were still admitted to patients despite the change in social views and eventually the government intervened and had the place shut down, hundreds died there.
" Now, this here ladies and gentlemen, is a very local example of paranormal activity. A lot of people have gone to explore the grounds of this abandoned lunatic asylum, none have come out without a couple of mental scars themselves. A girl actually died on the grounds of this asylum after she decided to go and explore it", Mr. Biersack explained. A bad feeling washed over regarding Josh as i looked in his direction to see him looking on at the image on the white board with a sense of eagerness.
"Tyler, i'm sure you're aware but it was actually your great grandfather who founded the asylum. You wouldn't happen to know anything about it that i don't know ?", Mr. Biersack asked, snapping me out of my thoughts. I reluctantly tore my eyes from Josh and looked at the twenty-nine year old man at the front of the room.
" Yeah, my great grandfather founded it when he was only twenty-five, it's three stories and they used shock therapy to cure things such as homosexuality, promiscuity, having children out of wedlock and ridiculous things like that", i explained.
" Mhmm, and what about the ghostly apparitions described by intruders years after it shut down?", he asked. That was the question i really didn't want to answer, because if i did i knew Josh would be straight on my case and down that asylum getting himself in all sorts of danger. Josh had turned around to look at me and my stomach was doing flips, i then thought about how he might actually ask me more about what i knew, and perhaps we could bond over it, once again i let my pathetic little crush control me and i went against my better reasoning.
" People have reported hearing screaming coming from inside, doors were slammed in peoples faces. People have seen faces in windows, and, yes, a girl died in there. She was running in the corridors and her friend reported that a trolly just rolled out in front of her as if it had been shoved by someone and she fell down the stairs, breaking her neck", i said. That had been the longest Josh had looked at me in all the years that i had known him and i was a complete mess inside, my stomach was invaded with crazy butterflies and i hoped to God that i wasn't blushing, although i probably was.
" Thank you Tyler, yes, Edward Joseph founded the asylum in 1959", i switched off once he had changed the slide and i had gone back to focusing on Josh, he was completely engrossed by everything Mr. Biersack had to say. I loved how he bit his bottom lip overtime he wrote something in his notepad and how he'd squint his eyes ever so slightly when he read off of the board and how he tapped his foot on the floor because he was probably getting restless and wanted to get home to look further in depth about everything he was taking in in today's lecture in his own room.

Finally the bell rang signalling lunch time and i gathered my things, preparing for another awkward lunch. I didn't have any friends, sure i had acquaintances, i was friendly with nearly everyone in my year, but i didn't have a group, a clique, so i'd just wander the school halls alone and eat my lunch, prepare for my next lesson. I walked out of the classroom and something i didn't expect to happen happened when Josh approached me.
" Hey Tyler", he said cheerfully. I nearly swallowed my God damn tongue as i stopped dead and gazed upon the most perfect boy i'd ever seen.
" H..Hey Josh", i stuttered awkwardly.
" I've noticed you around school and noticed that you don't hang out with anyone at lunch".
" Uh, yeah, well...", i was a complete mess in front of me but he didn't seem to mind.
" Well would you like to hang out with me ? I'd really like to pick your brain about the asylum if you don't mind, i'm a bit of a nerd when it comes to that stuff and i think your family history, or more specifically your great grandfather's history is really interesting", he rambled on as he dug out his note pad and pen from his bag and readied them both in his hand.
" What do you want to know ?", i asked.
" How do you get in ?". Wait, what ?
" Woah woah woah, you're not seriously thinking about going there are you ?", i asked. He nodded and smiled that perfect smile.
" Well, yeah ! How else would i see for myself if the place is actually haunted ?", he asked as if it was completely obvious.
" Listen, it's really dangerous in there you can't go, especially not alone", i ranted.
" Well then come with me"
" Are you serious ? I'm not going in there and neither are you", i demanded.
" You're not my mom i can do whatever i want without your consent. Either help me or don't it's all the same to me, but i just figured that you'd want to join me seeing as you've wanted to talk to me for so long and never have", he said. My face reddened profusely, how on God's green earth did he know i wanted to talk to him ? I know i haven't been the most discreet person ever but...
" Uh, y..you know ? Uh", i stumbled over my words, not really knowing what i wanted to say. He rolled his eyes and slipped his equipment back into his bag, throwing it over his shoulder.
" I really need your help, you know the place and its history. We'll be okay", he said and i could feel myself giving in to him. I grunted and then nodded my head.
"Okay, okay fine". His pretty little face lit up and he smiled at me. I'd rather go in with him then let him go on his own and stay up all night worrying about him... God help us...
