The midnight air is cold and it makes her cheeks flush a pale color, illumimating her face in the summer's full moon. Her big bright eyes stare into mine with a profound love I'll never forget, nor will she this night.
We walk along the beach, sand sinking between our toes, hand in hand, and very much in love. I cant stop looking at her face, at her eyes, lips, cheeks, freckles, nose, all of it.
She smiled as bright as the stars above, squeezing my hand tighter as she stops by the board walk, looking out towards the ocean in a strange mystery. "I want to go on the water," her voice is as smooth as the waves curling at our feet.
I thought this was perfect, so I agreed to take her into the water. There was a small boat hanging on the side of a small port made of soft wood that only went a few yards out. We walked to it and I helped her into the small vesile, making sure she wouldn't fall. The moon shone on her face again, making her green eyes shine brighter than before on the beach.
"This is going to be fun," I smiled softly and allowed myself in, sitting across ftom her and taking the small ores from the bottom and began pushing us further out. She kept staring at me, and it made me even more nervous.
"You know, I really love you," she said in a small voice, releaving my tense state.
"I know baby, I'd be worried if you didn't after all this time," We laughed together, her joy lifting my heart. I went to say more, but a small chime sounded in the distance, coming from the center of town and drew me to speak again.
"So, you know why I love this island? Everyone comes together when its needed." As she pondered on my comment, I ushered the boat to where we faced the island equally, Hawai'i's north shore facing us in all its glory. The chime was louder now.
"Yes I know honey, but-" she began and I cut her off.
"And they all love you. I know that is hard to believe, but this place is home. They're all family and they all love you, I want you to see how it looks when you can trust more than just me." With this, small little lights began to appear on the island, first in the homes, then over, and finally high above the bay. As they floated, they revealed themselves as lanterns, surfing the air like waves. Each had the simple word "ohana" scribbled on the thin square sheets.
She gasped as they flew over head, each representing one person, or one family. There were hundreds. I felt pleased with myself, and when I looked at her I saw the tears in her eyes, then I stopped.
"Is this bad?" I asked.
"No! No, its beautiful. Is so beautiful..." she whispered and wiped her eyes as she smiled and before I knew it, she was in my arms and crying into my chest. "Thank you, thank you so much." She murmured into my shirt.
Her love means the most to me in my whole life. She is my Ohana and my Aloha. I wanted her to see she is that to so many other people.
When we got off the boat, back at the house we were staying at she got another surprise. All our friends, our real friends, the ones we love and love us, were there. I've never seen her so happy, to see the love for her past my own abilities.
Once the night ended, we layed in bed with her in my arms and head on my chest. She looked up at me with wide eyes and murmured another thank you, then kissed me good night. I hope that kiss will beat the one at the wedding next week.
I'm not sure what else to say Jess. I want to do this one day and show you my love and the world's love. I love you baby girl.
