Chapter 1 First Day Blues
Lia, finished high school as a valedictorian, goody two- shoes, and teachers pet. In their private school, there were only 11 girls in their senior class. However, eventhough she's tall, slim, with long black hair and chinky eyes, guys always think of her as the 'nice and smart friend' not the 'girlfriend material'. Although she's everybody's friend, she's not in the 'popular group'.
Now that she's entering college, she's hoping for a fresh start and remove that goody two-shoes image and be the 'it' girl.
A week before the first day of class, Anne accompanies her bestfriend shopping.
"We've been in and out of this fitting room for hours, Lia. Could you please pick the ones you'll buy?!"
"Anne, please bear with me. It's make or break for me on the first day. I want something simple, but cool, you know..."
"Yes, I know... But could you please hurry up, I'm hungry!"
"Don't you wanna lose some weight, Anne? And change your image in college? You've been a little big since we were in grade school. And now that we're going to two different colleges, I can't protect you all the time. You know how cruel people can be."
"Not because your my bestfriend, it means we have the same dreams, Lia! This is me! Big! Like it or not, i'm comfortable with it. I'm going to college to graduate and get a degree, not to be popular and change who I am!"
"Anne, I'm sorry... You know that's not what I mean. I'm just worried about you... And I'm not going to change myself, just gonna unleash the cool me."
Lia winks at Anne, and they both burst into laughter. "Lia, you are not yet popular and you're already full of drama!"
"Okay, let's go. I'll get these cute baby tees and faded jeans."
"Wait! Don't popular girls steal? I saw it on TV! You shoud practice!" Anne jokes.
"You're crazy! I want to be popular not delinquent! Come on, the cashier's over there."
Anne continues to giggle, "I'm just saying..."
At home, Lia keeps trying on shoes in her room while talking to herself. "Sneakers with jeans would make me look like a friend, hmmm... but shoes with an inch heels, would make me a simple, cool chick."
Then she practices in front of a mirror. "Hi, I'm Lia! What's up? I'm Lia! Hey, Lia here! You are? I'm new here. I'm Lia!
With the first day of school just a few days away. Lia tries to find her inner coolness with the hope of being a campus figure in college. She rehearses any possible situation that may happen on her first day, just to make sure she's ready to be the 'it' girll for a change.
In high school, she did not experience dates and dancing with a boyfriend during prom. This time, she hopes to experience everything that college life has to offer.
Lia, goes to bed with much hope and expectation. "Goodnight, Lia. Break a leg on your first day."
