These words stick to me. They are carved into my skin, my heart, my eyes, and my soul. How could someone so close hurt you so bad? I thought we were good friends, but that friendship was destroyed, set on fire, crushed, and shredded into pieces.
It all started after school on a Thursday. It was a crisp cool January. The trees were bare and shivering, trying to close into themselves to keep warm. I drove myself home and threw myself down on the couch. Then I heard a buzz.
Buzz buzz
Reflexes kicked in and my arm shot out. Fingers grasped around the rectangular object, pulling it to the end of my nose. With squinting eyes I saw my friend texted me. We had recently become friends and we talked every day through the phone. It was a Snapchat, but for an odd reason my heart rate sped up like it was trying to escape the cage in my chest. Suddenly my fingers moved in slow motion. Slowly I typed each number of my password and dragged my heavy pointer to the app, clicking on his name and seeing "tell me about yourself". Immediately I knew what it was about, but in hope I replied "what do you mean?" That's when he explained the not-so-false rumors about me. My racing heart sunk back into my chest, trying to hide from sunlight, trying to hide from the world. Salty water dropped down my eyes down my cheeks as he added "It's like I don't even know you anymore." A best friend lost all because those around couldn't have the audacity not to talk about me behind my back. A friendship ruined, destroyed, crumpled and stomped on. I thought I could trust this friend with my awful secret, but I found I couldn't. I couldn't be looked at in the same way after that.
