1.) Pride: the father of all sins, excessive pride is believed to lead toward the other sins, greed comes from a belief that you deserve everything, envy from a feeling that you deserve something more than someone else, sloth from a feeling that the world owes you a living you don't have to work for, wrath from a feeling that you are superior and hence can judge and condemn others, gluttony from a feeling you deserve all of the nice expensive things (both qualitative and quantitative gluttony) and lust from a feeling that you deserve the best/most sexual partners
2) Envy: hatred is the obverse of the same coin as envy, envy spawns hatred and hatred envy. Wraith is often an extension of hatred. Envy can lead to lust when the object of desire is anouther person, envy can lead to the destruction of other people's property. Envy is also dangerous since it is a hidden sin, where the glutton is fat and the proud carry themselves differently and greed is often condomned in our society, envy is condemned and often lays hidden eating away at people till all they know is vitrol
3.)greed: when ambition and the desire to do well for yourself and your family spiral out of control, then greed comes into play. Greed, like pride and envy, is responsible for a whole host of secondary sins like prostitution, drug dealing, murder for gain, exploitation, corporate fraud. How many thousands of people lost thier life savings so the executives at ENRON could make tens of millions? how many people have to get food stamps or give up driving because they can't afford the cost of gasoline? greed is only second to envy because of envy's more dramatic impact on the individual, its ability to destroy the person and replace them with a miserable wretch
4.)wrath: wrath doesn't just mean anger or vengence, but extends to any form of violence. Most people, even muggers and murders, feel some sense of justification in thier crimes. "I only shot him because he resisted, i only killed her cause she was having an affair" wrath leads to gang violence, wars, murder, genocide, and most of the social ills which plagued the 20th centuary such as the communist purges in russia and the holocaust, vietnam, the war in Iraq, etc Wrath deserves to be high on the list just for its linkage to war
5.)Lust: Lust has two different dimensions: thought crime and actual crime. Lust is both a form of envy, wanting to fornicate with someone else's wife, and its own sin by definition it occurs when you fornicate with someone whom you are not married (the very definition of fornication!) it can have very serious life consiquences, spreading disease, unwanted children, abortion, teen pregnancy.
6.)Gluttony is a sin of the individual, the effects of the glutton become apperent on the quantitative gluttons face. They grow ut of control, fat to th point of inability to live life, thier health declined to dangerous levels. However there is anouther type most people ignore, the qualitative glutton. these are the kinds of people who go out and buy very expensive foods they can't afford and as such suffer in the rest of tier lives. welfare people who buy $300 bottles of alcohol or cavier
7.)Sloth is a sin of the individual, When put in the wrong hands, IE of a father or provider, sloth can be dangerous to others as well, ruining the lives of children and spouses. However, sloth is the mildest sin in that it is one of the most open, hurts others least as long as it isn't pandemic, and tends not to lead to any other sins
I would say, however, that most of the sins have become so common place in our society that i would replace them with 7 new ones, ones that are having a more immidiate effect on our society and not so much on the individual:
Apathy
Ignorance
Ambition
hypocricy
"Sexuality" (lust in the more global sense, the everywhere you turn there are half naked women on tv or magazines etc or 20 porn stores right after you get off the bus in port authority)
Cynicism
Hatred
