Gale had long known that he was losing the war. Not the rebellion, but the fight for Katniss. They had met each other through the mutual need of survival. They needed food. They were hunting partners. Friends, even. It was only logical that the would marry sometime. And then there was Peeta. Katniss and Peeta had also been brought together to survive. For only a few days. Years of hunting together, years of being the breadwinners. All brought down and burned by the "girl on fire." He thought he had a chance. The games came and went, again. Then the rebellion came. Light shone at the end of the tunnel. But after all, Katniss was fully in love with the baker. After all.
Sleep Well
So, here I sit. Looking down at Katniss. Not two minutes ago, she told me to stay, to keep her from the nightmares. Her face is scarred. The tissue still red and irritated from the whip of the peacekeeper. No one saw that coming. She turns in her sleep muttering something about Mutts. I wish I could do more. Unfortunately, I can't stopper the dreams, can't destroy the terrors, can not erase the memories. She is such a beautiful person. If only she would realize that, without our help. Oh Katniss, Sleep well.
