Before impact:
The news keeps talking about a possible meteor collusion, religious people talk about the end times, part of the world seems to have ideas to stay alive, while others continue about normally.
The Day of Promise:
The world powers formed a united government to deal with the threat to our survival, but with little time to prepare they were only able to form a simi protective barrier to be deployed in the space above impact zone.
Most of the people either left the USA or were trying to, those who couldn't see the moon as it is knocked to the Earth. The barrier protects the world, but not enough to save the US.
The World Now:
Once the moon hit the planet a virus is released into the now changed atmosphere. The world is mostly coated in thick storms and clouded air filled with ash, soil, and other particles including the unseen virus. The USA is now just a massive crater aside from just the outer edges. A single government rules the world.
The Crater:
The edge is refered to as the Edge of the Planet. It is a massive impact site. No one can enter the crater due to the intense fires that burn. Most is destroyed around the edge, but some relics stand in the destruction and now sandy desert.
The Virus:
The virus gets released into the atmosphere. Some remain unaffected, but others change. Plants, animals, and humans are all susceptible to this virus. Those affected can have physical changes and/or special abilities. (Cannot be overpowered).
The Government:
The government wishes to capture the infected. They will contain them, use them, and kill them. (Yes the government is evil, at least for the infected).
