Brush with Death

The Beach

     Jaya and her friends were relaxing on the beach, enjoying summer vacation. Yesterday, they had seen Nora and practiced their powers. They weren't supposed to see her until tomorrow. The friends didn't discuss the weird presence they felt outside their windows, last night.  The waves crashed and Jaya breathed in the ocean air. The wind picked up and the sun shone brightly.

" This I could get used to." Jaya gushed, standing on a rock.

"Two months of pure bliss." Felix replied, not looking at her.

" Sorry about yesterday,I was just annoyed." Jaya told him.

" No worries my revenge will be sweet." Felix said.

" I'll be sure to watch out then." Jaya countered. 

    Things were going to well and it was oddly quiet. The friends were laughing and joking around. Adam suddenly fell down on the sand, with a thud. The friends rushed over to him and were horrified by what they saw. A small red blob with spikes was attacking Adam. It was leaving cuts in his face and looked like it was sucking him dry. Adam's eyes closed and the blob drifted into the sea.

 " Was that a jellyfish?" Vela asked.

" Normally, I would have said yes but since these powers,I'm going to go with no." Shreya responded.

" Is he breathing? Jaya asked  worriedly.

" Barely." Kane replied

"We have to go to Nora. She can help him hopefully." Feliz mustered.   

 The boys picked up Adam and walked with the girls to the abandoned house. The house looked the same but the windows were pitch black. There were footprints leading out from the front door. Knowing, Nora usually vanishes the friends knew someone had been there and it was not Nora. Vela opened the door and the friends were shocked by what they saw.

" I-Is she dead?" Shreya asked nervously.

" Her pulse is faint." Jaya claimed.

" Let's put Adam and help Nora." Kane suggested to Felix.

" H-help...." Nora stammered.

" What can we do?" Felix asked hoping for a reply.

" T-table..." She whispered.

  The friends looked on the table and saw three vials counting liquids. One was orange and two were purple. They had no idea which one to use.

" Which one,Nora?" Kane inquired.

" G-Green as a apple." She barely got out.

" There are two green ones." Felix said.

" Thank you captain obvious!" Jaya said sarcasticly.

" The lighter one." Shreya interjected.

"What?" Vela said.

" The lighter one has the color of a granny smith apple." Shreya explained.

" Let's try it." Kane said, pouring it into Nora's mouth.

   After about three minutes Nora awakened.  Her eyes bloodshot and body weakened. She stood up and the girls helped her to a chair. She magically conjured up some tea and drank. Nora saw Adam laying on the floor.

" What happened to him?" She asked. 

" Oh, crap we forgot all about him." Kane said.

" Some red blob with little blades attacked him on the beach. He's been out ever since." Jaya said answering the question. 

" Paulo Diabolus." Nora answered, shaking her head.

" What the hell is that?" Kane muttered. 

" You don't want to know. Anyway, pass me the purple vial." She continued.

  The friends did as they were told and watched Nora. She made Vela summon a rat and then cut off it's tale. Nora placed the tale in the vial and shook it. She then poured it into Adam's mouth as, the friends shuttered in disgust.  Adam woke and realizied his face was bleeding quite a lot. 

" What happened to me?" He asked disoriented.

" Shush and relax." Jaya commanded.

   Adam obeyed and Jaya wet a rag and, began to wipe. She cleaned the blood from his face. Kane and Felix watched while the others attended to Nora. Felix turned his back and talked to Kane. After a while, Jaya was still cleaning the blood.

" He can do that himself." Felix yelled.

" He does have two hands Ja." Kane continued.

" Just trying to help a friend." Jaya explained.

" I'll handle it but, thanks."Adam said.

   Jaya shot Kane and Felix a dirty look before sitting down. Just then Nora's eyes turned black as night. She was in a trance for five minutes. She came to gasping.

" Fodea Bestia." She gulped. 

" Who?" Vela asked.

" Not who, what. He was what attacked me. He's a old demon who has millions of little minions." Nora explained.

" Ok, then what just happened when your eyes turned black?" Adam asked.

" I had a vision. I saw that he visited you guys last night after my attack. He has marked you." She continued.

" What do you mean marked?" Jaya inquired.

" He wants all of your power and will find a way to get it. Hundreds of other demons will try to capture for Fodea, in exchange for a reward." She said.

" D-d-demons..." Adam gulped, with fear in his eyes.

Rolling her eyes Jaya said " Why does he want our power?"

" You six possess the strongest magic in the world. With it he can restore his apperance and wreak havoc. I will protect you." Nora promised. 

     The friends didn't know what to think. All this was to much for fourteen year olds. Who was this Fodea Bestia? How would he capture them and what did he look like? They watched as Nora looked through a stack of books.

 " Aha!" She rejoiced and asked the group to sit at the table.  The friends did as they were told and sat.

Nora began to give them a crash course in demons. They lisented attentively hoping to hear about Fodea Bestia. Nora promised she would get to him and then in a second she vanished again, leaving the friends alone.

" Maybe our journals would have some info." Jaya suggested.

" He is centuries old, alright lets go home and read." Shreya said.

" Great reading" Kane said sarcatically.

  The friends laughed and walked home to find the journals. They hoped it would help them more than Nora did. Anything on this "demon" would be helpful. He would not harm them or so they thought. The sky turned black and it began to rain heavily.
