Nameday. The day I had been worried about since I was twelve years old. They day where the Minister of Names would flick through a wide book and see your deeds and declare you a name you would live with forever. It was natural for everyone else, they had been ecstatic about Nameday since they were mere toddlers, learning animal sounds. My older sister, Pearl, had seen a man on the street, begging for food. She rushed down to the rocks and handed him a clam, when he opened it he saw a beautiful pearl which he sold for hundreds of dollars. Hence her name. Pearl was lucky, some teenagers get stuck with names like Donate or Assist, but the Minister was her best friends uncle, so she pulled some strings and got Pearl. Everyone in year twelve had their deed picked out; some even got people to call them by the names they had chosen. I went by Sundry, because they greatest thing I had ever done was fetch coffees for my internship at Newcombe. The company where your phone means your way of living. I had always been interested in technology, so I hoped my internship at Newcombe could get me ins with the industry. Nameday was a little less then twenty-one hours away and I had done nothing to provide me with some unique name, and I didn't want to be stuck with Sundry my entire life. I took my puppy Ingo out for a walk, hoping I would find a frog in need or a old lady who had fallen over or something; anything. I flickered my eyes at the trees, and felt the lead tighten. I gripped it and looked down and saw my puppies golden eyes looking up at me from the bottom of a ditch.
"You silly goose" I stated as I leaned in the hole to grab him. Suddenly the hiss of a snake startled me and I saw a brown "twig" slide out of a crevase in the ditch. I yanked Ingo out, put him under my armpit and bolted.

As I, Minister of Names, Present this lovely individual with the name

Bolt.
