As we drove to the rave, we rambled about life. Scott told me about his family, revealing that he had a sister that lived somewhere in Europe. I let him know about my best friend, who I didn't think twice about ditching. That's sad.. maybe I should call her. Her name is Leslie. We've been friends since third grade, she was at the funeral. She knows everything about me. But I left her. I feel bad... but today is for Scott and I. He's my new best friend, him or Alyssa. I missed him in New York, I needed this.
When we pulled up, Scott walked up confidently, waiting for me every so often. As soon as we walked in, he yelled. I think it's to get his energy out, but maybe he just felt like it. I don't know about Scott anymore, because he's sending mixed signals. When I catch up, I grab his hand. He pulls my hand to his lips, and just when I thought he'd kiss it, he just breathed softly, the only calm thing in this place, and my reaction was just as energetic as the room. My feet immediately started tapping, my hands made knots with each other, and my head raced. You shouldn't let one person make you feel like you've drank eight cups of coffee. But I did.
When he grabbed my hand, he led me toward the couch, where his friends sit. I sit with them and watch Scott take a long drag of a weed, passing it to me. Scott knows I'm not into drugs, so I look at him be wildered. He lets out a deep hearty laugh, and says, "Pass it on." He takes a moment before adding, "Or take a small hit." I shake my head and pass it to the boy with blonde hair and blue eyes sitting next to me, who is eating a bag of chips and tapping his foot. Scott talks to a guy who is already high, also sipping a small cup. He chose a red cup, so no one could judge his drink. It made me thirsty for a small bit of club soda, or maybe a Shirley Temple.
I grab Scott's hand and lean over to whisper, "I'm gonna get a drink, do you want anything?"
Scott smiled and leaned over to my ear and whispered back, "Just a Cola." I nod, removing my hand from his. I'm used to casual handholding, but this seemed different. He usually grabs my wrist to guide me. But tonight our palms touch and fingers interlock. His thumb even rubs against the back of my hand sometimes, sending shivers.
I'm lost in thought until a guy runs up to me and squeals, "Hey! Can I have a drink with you and act like I'm here with you so that girl stops hitting on me?"
I laugh and nod, "Yeah, sure thing. I hope you'll do the same for me in advance."
He chuckles and looks at the bartender, "I'll have a clean whiskey, and whatever the lady adores."
I giggle, "A mini- pinã colída." The bartender nodded and started on the drinks. I looked at my new "boyfriend."
He smiled, "I'm gay. Please, don't get ideas."
I flinch, "Oh! Okay, I'm sorry." I sigh into my hands, embarrassed.
My mystery boy laughs and shakes his head, "That's what my girlfriend told me to say, but no one listens."
I laugh, "Oh!" When the bartender slides over the drinks, I take a sip. There's no alcohol in mine.
I ask the bartender, "Can I also have a cola?" I look back at the boy and say, "For my friend."
He nods and says, "I'm gonna say you went home, so I can sneak away."
I laugh, "Alright." He gave me a quick hug, but it was nothing like Scott.
I wave and walk back to the couch, where Scott was standing, strangely. I hand him his cola and he says, "Who was that?"
I shrug, "He needed a fake girlfriend."
Scott sighs of relief and says, "Let's dance." I nod and skip over to the dance floor, popping my head along with me. Scott pulls me by the waist, closer to him. He rests his hands on my hips as we swing around, dancing. My hips are inches away from his when I jump, and we feel the heat of the crowd and the music was our air, pumping through us, but he was my blood, rushing around. Hours must have passed before he pulled me close and whispered in my ear, "Lets get outta here."
