"what?!"

"i bought him an iphone x," yongguk repeated meekly, proudly grinning.

"that's... but you have a nokia!" kenta scoffed, the chinese boy rolling his eyes. "it's fine, i wanted to get him that. plus, there are no added expenses to his phone because it doesn't have a sim. perfect, right?"

kenta furrowed his eyebrows, shrugging. "i don't know, 'guk..."

"come on," he rolled his eyes as they walked out of the campus. "it's already been done. don't make me start to regret it."

kenta nodded to himself, before clicking his tongue. "ah, i had something else to talk about."

yongguk looked over at him as he spoke. "there's something weird about sanggyun. something... i don't know. something fishy. it's not... there's one detail that's just not adding up, you know? he-"

"well, of course he'd look different to you," yongguk shrugged. "you thought he was dead for the last month or so. you haven't seen him for a while."

"no, there's..." kenta tried channelling himself to find the right words. "he looks... he would've, like, hugged me or held my hands or something but he didn't-"

"ah, he told me that you looked at him in a really mean way," yongguk recalled, furrowing his eyebrows. "he said he was really hurt. come on, kenta, i know it's weird, what's happened, but he still has feelings."

"no, i--" kenta paused and sighed, shrugging. "ah... i see. can i come over?"

"why?" yongguk frowned as the boy shrugged. "i feel like seeing him, i don't know. i haven't seen him since the first time i did, and apparently there i looked at him weirdly."

"don't go if you wanna start up beef," yongguk glared at him, but he shook his head. "no! i just wanna see... i wanna see him. now that i have, like, more context as to what the hell he is, i wanna see him."

"kenta," yongguk warned. he paid no attention.

"let's go, let's go," he ushered on, leading the two towards the apartment complex.

-

"you're home-- oh."

yongguk tried his hardest not to wince at sanggyun's disappointed tone once he saw kenta. in this aspect, kenta had been right; there was something off, but between the two of them only. they used to be incredibly close, sometimes even closer than sanggyun and yongguk were, yet here they both stood with disgust lacing around them.

"i-i brought kenta home... just for now," yongguk mumbled, quickly escaping into his bedroom to put his bag away.

"hey," kenta muttered gently, getting no answer from sanggyun. "how've you, uh... how've you been?"

sanggyun's fiery red eyes took one glance at kenta, from his head to his toes, before he huffed at him and turned away.

kenta was offended. what the hell did he do for sanggyun to treat him so rudely?

"kenta, did you get the papers from the professor today?" yongguk asked as he walked back out, the japanese boy nodding. "ah, yeah... um, 'guk, i just realised that i gotta go but could i just talk to you real quick?"

"you do? but you just came," yongguk frowned, before meeting kenta's hopeful gaze and sighing. "all right. we'll be back, sanggyun hyung."

the two walked out as sanggyun glared at them, before hovering over to the kitchen.

"alright, you gotta have seen that," kenta scoffed as soon as they walked out, yongguk frowning.

"what?"

"sanggyun hyung was automatically hostile to me!" he outraged. "as soon as i walked in, i wanted to say hi but he just glared at me and-"

"to be fair, you guys were both glaring at each other," yongguk started to get mad that kenta would even accuse his hyung of such things.

"w-well..." kenta muttered, before clicking. "he's different, i swear! don't his eyes freak you out?"

"eyes?" yongguk scoffed. "why would his eyes freak me out?"

"well i don't know, because they're glowing red?!"

yongguk furrowed his eyebrows. "no they're not."

"yes, yes they are!" kenta snapped, the other boy shaking his head.

"are you fucking with me right now? i don't know what you're saying, kenta, but sanggyun's eyes are definitely not... red."

"ugh, let me show you," kenta pushed open the door and opened up his phone, sanggyun staring at them. "wha-"

kenta suddenly took a photo of him, meeting his red eyes with pride, before checking his camera roll.

shivers ran down his spine as all the picture had shown was the living room he was in.

"you're not meant to see ghosts in photos, anyway," yongguk mumbled quietly, trying to shake off the nervous feeling he got. "anyway, just go home. you're starting to freak me out with this 'red eye' crap."

"b-but they are! i swear-"

"go," yongguk pleaded gently, making kenta huff. "fine. fine. i just- i won't say anything else except for the fact that i think something's wrong. i'll see you tomorrow."

kenta walked off as yongguk looked back at sanggyun, who had overheard the whole last bit of the conversation. seeing his hyung's pure eyes made him angry. who was kenta to accuse him so harshly? he didn't deserve it.

so he went back inside and closed the doors, heading towards the man whom he loved.
