Poppy got into Liam's car.
"Morning," he smiled at her.
"Hey," she smiled back shutting the door.
Liam stared at her. "You okay?"
Poppy nodded forcing her smile to stay on her face. "I'm good."
"Okay," Liam turned away.
Poppy's smile wiped away.
"How was your sleep over?"
"We slept," Poppy looked out the window.
"Did you guys braid each other's hair and talk about boys?" Liam chuckled.
Poppy didn't hear him. She frowned. She would have to face Mason at school in a few minutes. She didn't understand it. How could he betray her the way he did? What could've compelled him to try to hurt her? It wasn't love for sure.
"Poppy? Are you there?"
Poppy looked at Liam. "You're my best friend...right?"
Liam looked at Poppy then he looked at the road. "Of course. Why would you ask?"
"I don't know. It's just...I'm scared."
"Scared of what?"
"That one day you'll just...decide that I'm not worth it anymore. I mean...I always disappoint you. What if you get fed up with me?"
"Poppy, you sound ridiculous. I would never... Where is this coming from? Did Charlotte feed you some crap?"
"No. She didn't. She left the minute my dad got home. We didn't talk much."
"Then what makes you think that I would ditch you?"
"I don't know."
"Poppy, I decided to be your friend for a reason. And calling you my best friend means you've earned it. You know I wouldn't just give that title away to anyone... Did something happen between you and Mason?"
Poppy sighed and shut her burning eyes to prevent tears from filling them. "I can't talk about it. Nevermind."
"Is it something personal? Like...that only you two can discuss?"
Poppy turned to the window.
"Poppy...you're scaring me now. Did you guys fight? I know he can get crazy. What happened?"
"We fought," Poppy looked at Liam with tears in her eyes. "And I can't talk about it. Okay?"
Liam stared at her.
"Let's just drive. And maybe not talk for the rest of the ride."
Cars horns going off behind them startled him.
They slowly drove through the green light.

Poppy got out of Liam's car and slammed the door. Then she started walking towards the school.
She walked up the steps walking past Fisher.
Fisher followed her scared that she had found out that their relationship was a set up. He quickly grabbed her hand. "Hey, what's going on?" He stood in front of her.
She looked up at him with bleak eyes, then she threw her arms around him and buried her face in his chest.
"Hey," he hugged her back, running his fingers through her hair. "What's wrong?"
Poppy let him go, wiping her cheeks.
Fisher felt his heart sinking. He cared about her. Since when.
