Kagome took a deep breath, faced her "father" and said, "I'm leaving. You are not the loving and dependable father that helped raise me when I was younger." She paused to make sure that he was paying attention before continuing on, "What happened to the man that protected me from all the boys in middle school? What happened to the man who took me to the school's Father and Daughter dance?" She took another breath to stop the oncoming tears; whatever she does, she can't be scared. Kagome has come so far and has waited patiently for the day that her fear of this conversation was finally nonexistent.
With new found confidence she continued dauntlessly, "Now all I see is an alcoholic who comes home late smelling like perfume."
Of all the emotions going through her, Kagome chose to hold onto her fury. After her mother died, her father had become a complete wreck. At first, she could understand why. She, too, was an emotional mess, but she eventually got to the point of not breaking down over the smallest memory. Kagome attempted to move on; meanwhile, her father continued to get worse. He started drinking, gambling, and doing other things that weren't healthy both physically and psychologically.
It's been two years since it all started and Kagome was finally of age to leave his presence and move on once and for all.
"You just don't understand sweetheart-" her father grumbled under his breath. "Don't call me that! I don't want an explanation from you," the raven-haired teenager turned around, snatched her car keys off the wall and rushed to the door, her head hanged low as her tears were finally falling.
"Kagome, you can't!" her father called out angrily, grabbing her left forearm tightly. She cringed. This conversation had been going downhill ever since she got home from school. Kagome was grateful that she had already taken all her belongings to her friend Sango's house the night before.
"Let go," she hissed, body still turned towards the door. "No, you can't leave. What will you do without me? Who will take care of you?" He was yelling now, "You have a secret boyfriend that I don't know about, don't you? What, do you invite him over while I'm not home?" Kagome gasped, tears still falling freely as she faced him. 'How could he?' she questioned inwardly as her final sliver of control disappeared.
The man laughed bitterly, "I knew it! And you get onto me for coming home late? You're so hypercritical! You have no right to judge me!" 'I have to get out of here. He's delirious,' Kagome concluded as she used her other arm struggling to pry off the man's hand.
By then the tears had stopped, her stormy eyes instead showing pure hatred towards the disgrace in front of her. She yanked her arm away, screaming, "Who do you think you are talking to? I am not one of your floozies! You had always said that I was the best thing that happened to you and mom." Kagome knew that this was her chance, that she should just leave with those last words, but she wanted to - no, she had to - get all her pent-up emotions out in the open. "I don't deserve this treatment, why would mom ever marry a son-" the doorbell cut her curse short.
Kagome huffed loudly, picked her fallen keys off the carpet, gave one last dauntless glare towards her so-called father, and went to retrieve the door. "Hey Kags, I was wondering if you wanted to head over to Sango's house with me. Miroku's already over there-" the black-haired teenager finally looked up to the girl, who was gazing back with a shocked expression in addition to an array of other emotions.
Those stormy eyes of hers that had just held fear, sadness, and overall anger, softened a bit. "Oh. Hey, Inuyasha. I was actually just leaving to drive over there," Kagome held her breath as she rushed to close the door before her best friend could see the man inside and get any ideas of what just occurred between the said man and herself.
Inuyasha noticed something was off and grasped her arms, pulling her closer as if he were about say something privately, "What's wrong? Did something happen with your father, 'cause if so, you know-" Kagome, smiling warmly, interrupted him, "There was just a miscommunication between my father and me. Even so, I was a big girl and took care of the problem all by myself." She was grinning now, pride emanating from her form.
Inuyasha looked at her like she was crazy, but gave in and retorted stubbornly, "I know there's more to it, but since you're my favorite I'll let it go for now." Kagome was relieved for the first time that day.
Inuyasha linked her arm with his and they made their way down the driveway to his black Aston Martin Vanquish S. "Can I drive?" Kagome squealed, pushing the past hour of events in the back of her mind for now.
"Only if you promise not to crash it like you almost did last time," the nineteen-year-old requested. "I promise not to crash your car like I almost did last time... There, now trade with me and buckle up buttercup." She tossed her car keys over to him as did he the same.
She clambered in the driver's side inhaling the fresh scent of expensive leather. "Wait a sec', what about my car?" Kagome almost forgot. Inuyasha chuckled at her aloofness, "Miroku and I can come grab it later after dinner. Now, you all set?"
He looked over to the eighteen-year-old toddler starting up his car. 'She seems different. But it's not a bad different if anything it's as if she was just granted a miracle,' he thought happily to himself. Kagome had similar thoughts.
"I can't wait!" The raven-haired girl suddenly yelped, scaring the boy half to death. "What the heck for," he asked, adrenaline behind his words. "Oh," she giggled, "Sorry, I just can't wait for the future to come." Kagome stopped at a red light and turned towards Inuyasha, giving her infamous heart-melting smile. He blushed and looked forward, stuttering, "T-The light's green."
She chuckled sweetly, turning forward pushing the gas, "Yes. Yes, it is."
