When I arrived at the hospital, all I could do was watch as nurses and doctors stabbed me with needles and handed me pills. I had a broken collarbone, two broken fingers, my jaw was displaced, several stab wounds, and several broken ribs. I had become so accustomed to the pain that I didn't feel half of what they were doing. I'd be going into surgery in a matter of minutes. They needed to cut into my stomach and remove a piece of my rib that completely broke off. Dr. Sherrill told me how rare it was for ribs to snap like that, but I only listened to half of what he was saying.
"What has happened to everyone?" I whispered to a nurse who had bent close to my face to examine my collarbone. She smiled at me and shook her head. "Please tell me," I pleaded. A tear streamed down my face and her eyebrows pinched together.
"I think it would be best if we told you after the surgery." she told me calmly. I shook my head vigorously.
"No!" I shouted, "Tell me now! I can't go another minute living in the darkness! If you do not tell me I will unhook everything you've attached to me, march my happy ass down the hallway to the police officers, and find out myself what you pricks have been hiding from me! I'm not going to be kept in the shadows the rest of my life. I refuse." I shouted the words right into her face. She stared at me, shocked, then jogged out of the room. I slammed my fist onto my blanket and began to weep.
"Miss. Skylar? Do you really want to know what has happened to everyone?" A police officer asked as he closed the door behind him. I hadn't even noticed him enter my room. I shot him an incredulous look and he got the message immediately. "Alright, we'll start with the best. You had 38 people trapped in that house with you. Would you mind telling me their names?" I knew he was just procrastinating so I gave in.
"Hayes Grier, Nash Grier, Cameron Dallas-" I was cut off by a silencing hand.
"Just the first names, please." he told me as he wrote the first three down on a notepad. Maybe he wasn't procrastinating.
"Alright. Hayes, Nash, Cameron, Taylor, Carter, Matthew, Jack J., Jack G., Aaron, Miranda, and Shawn. I do not know who the others were." When I looked up at the officer, he was nodding and writing at the same time.
"Thank you. I wanted to see if you remembered who was specifically trapped with you. I was surprised you knew two that weren't with you. Okay, we'll start with the good news. Out of the 11 you told me, 8 have lived. Unfortunately, 3 have died. Of the 8 that lived, 6 are severely injured. Would you like to know who has passed?" he asked sorrowfully. I nodded blankly and tried to focus. "The 3 that passed were Cameron Dallas, Nash Grier, and Carter Reynolds. I am sorry for your losses." with that, he left the room. It was then that I noticed I was crying. Cam, Nash, Carter. I can't believe it. They're gone. They can't just leave like that. Its not fair! But that also means Shawn is alive. Shawn.
