chapter 1: best frwiends?

Luke's POV:

"Kids! Kids! Stop throwing the crayons and settle down now." Mrs. Jones tried to calm the children down and get them back into their seats. What did she expect we were only in kindergarten we didn't know any better.

"Today a new student is going to be joining our class so I want all of you to be nice to her." she told us.

Her?

"Her name is Sam, she's five and she just moved here." In walked a girl, her brown hair in a french braid and wearing pink overalls. Everyone stared at her as she made her way into the classroom.

"Is someone sitting here?" she asked. Her bottom two teeth were missing but that still didn't affect how pretty she was.

"Uh- what- oh no." I stammered. She sat down in the chair beside me and I could sense my body tense up. Was it hot in here? Because I could feel the sweat on my forehead.

"Luke likes Sam!" Molly said pointing her finger at me. Soon the whole class joined in "Luke likes Sam! Luke likes Sam!"

"Oh shut up would you." I bit back.

"Okay class that's enough. Finish you're abc worksheets." the teacher spoke up and the class was silent again. Thank god because I was about to explode.

"So you're name is Lwuke?" Sam smiled. I would never get over her crooked smile and how loosing her bottom teeth affected her talking.

"Oh - um - yea mine name is Luke." I really needed to stop doing that. She giggled at how I kept stuttering in everything I said.

"Well I'm Sam but you can call me Sammy, if you want." Sammy.. I never thought about that.

"Okay Sam. I mean- Sammy." I smiled cheeesily.

"Got a last name?" she asked me.

"Hemmings."

"Hwemmings." She laughed.

"Mines is Hernandez."

"We can be best frwiends. If you want." She squeaked. God she was so adorable.

"Okay, but I've never had one before so..." It's true I was cool I guess but I never considered anyone as a friend. Until now that is.

"I can show you Lwuke."

"Okay." I giggled.

She took our pinkies and looped them around each other and said

"Lwuke we'll be best frwiends for ever. I pinkie pwromise." she stared at me. Oh, I was suppose to promise too?

"I pinkie promise.. too." she smiled and held my hands.

From that moment, we did everything together. I protected her and people knew not to mess with her or they'd have to deal with me. She was mines and I was her. My best friend Sammy Hernandez.
