Gumball's POV:
I finished undertaking my duties for today. Exhausted, I made my way to the bathroom to take a shower. I had planned to meet up with Fiona and Cake to watch a movie. They said that I should have more free time instead of working all the time, and a few months ago they made a tradition of going to watch a movie with them every other day; when I completed my duties early. I did not mind that agreement, and eventually, I grew to enjoy it.
I picked a pink sweater, since it was getting colder these days, and pair of light blue jeans, mainly because I was feeling rebellious. Today had been a long, exhausting day, and I wanted to try something different.
I arrived at their house. Before I could even knock the door, Cake came out and closed the door behind her.
"Hi Cake-" Cake covered my mouth with her hand.
"Gumball," she whispered, "I need to tell you something."
"What's the matter? Is something wrong?" I whispered back.
"No, everything is fine," she replied, looking somewhere to the left.
I could see the concern in her expression.
"Then, what is it?" I asked again.
"It's Marshall," she said, looking away.
"What about him?" I asked with a more sternly tone.
It had been a while since we broke up. It had ended relatively okay, if I do say so myself. However, Cake knew Marshall was still a touchy subject for me. She often attempted to refrain from mentioning the guy, but sometimes the subject just came up.
I wondered if that happened to Marshall as well.
"He's inside," she said nervously.
"What?!" I said almost aloud. "You invited him?"
Great, this day just gets better and better.
"No, I didn't! He just showed up-"
The door opened and I saw Fiona in the sofa, and next to her was Marshall. He was wrapping his arm around her shoulder and telling her something. Fiona looked uncomfortable.
Fiona saw me and tried to get away from Marshall.
"Look who's here!" Said Fiona in a relieved but nervous tone.
"See, I told you! We were waiting for Gumball to get here so we could watch a movie together!"
Marshall turned to look at me with his dark, caliginous eyes.
"Well then, no problem," he said smiling, "how about we all watch it together?"
"How about you tell us why you're here," I said.
In retrospect, I might have been somewhat harsh with the guy, but I was caught off guard with his sudden visit.
"I just thought I'd pay a visit to an old friend," replied Marshall.
"Gumball, really, it's not that big of a deal. He could watch the movie with us, then leave." Cake intervened.
"Yeah," said Marshall, sitting down in the sofa, and next to Fiona.
Movie night is decidedly ruined. I thought.
I noticed Marshall kept bugging Fiona throughout the whole film. He kept trying to 'make a move', as in that smooth shoulder hug that hardly ever happens in real life, but just so happens to be the punchline is every trashy romcom.
The awkwardness of the situation radiated nervousness, and sparked a minuscule sensation of annoyance (not to be confused with jealousy, because it totally wasn't).

"Oh, that was a great movie you all!" Said Cake while wiping her tears.
"Yeah, but it was really sad," said Fiona.
"Any of you guys want to take some snacks with you?" Cake opened a bag of chips.
"No thank you Cake," I replied, "Goodbye you guys, thanks for everything."
"Bye guys," said Marshall.
"Bye," both Fiona and Cake replied.
"That was a good movie," said Marshall, once we were outside.
"Why did you come back?"
Marshall was silent for a moment.
"I just, I thought I'd come by."
As always, Marshall dodges the question.
"You're not gonna get back with Fiona, are you?"
Yes, he dated Fiona for a while after we broke up, but they didn't last long.
"What is the actual reason you're here?" I asked.
"I guess I just wanted to apologize." He kept looking at the sky.
"I was not the best, and I am sorry." He seemed really sincere.
"It's okay, I accept your apology."
Marshall then proceeds to kiss me.
