PROLOGUE

 Mirandos' POV

Soul mates?

Yeah, I think they exist. Just they're not always sexually intimate. I think there are certain people from your childhood who just connect with you, whether you realize it or not, and you understand each other, no matter what happens between the two of you as you grow up. Yeah, something might develop further, but maybe not, and you're happy with that.

Or maybe, they're not your soul mate. They could be a teacher, sibling, or friend. The person I believe is my soul mate, is not just a friend, but my best friend, Loretta Callisto.

I met her on my home planet, Tempestoro, when we were little kids. Her brother, Miles Callisto, saved me from my snowball, which is a long story.

We've gotten close since then. We understand each other, protect each other, watch out for the other. We might have our fights, but, we always make it up in the end.

People say to Loretta, that falling for someone who isn't your species, will cause the relationship to fail. Loretta never listened to them.

But there's another way you can tell if someone is your soul mate; it's with a mark somewhere on your body. The marks are never the same as everyone else. A lot of people believe the Ancient Builders gave us the marks, so that one day, you can find each other. I have Loretta's name carved in the palm of my hand.

But, I'm not going to be talking about marks and friendships, or even snowballs right now. I'm talking about how I knew that Loretta was my soulmate, and how we became a couple.

This is the story of how I fell in love with Loretta Callisto, my Mission Specialist, and human.
