HaroldThe next day after meeting Lillian at the club, I had to meet my parents and my sister for brunch. She had just arrived back from England, where she was studying abroad for a year. My parents however had not informed her about their separation yet. Which means I am definitely in for an awkward meal.
My parents driver picked me up after they had left the home I once lived in. When I got in I could feel the tension, you honestly couldn't even cut it with a knife. But when I turn to my sister the smile on her face makes all my troubles go out the door. The first big change I notice about her is that she has her hair cut like all the women do now.
"Alice!" I say sitting down beside her. Once I am settled she pulls me in for a long over due hug. "I've missed you! How was London?"
"Oh it was simply amazing Harold, I don't see why Father and Mother moved us here to the states in the first place. It was fabulous, just the culture of the city blew me away." She said speaking highly about our hometown.
"I bet it was Alice, and I must say this hairstyle suits you beautifully." I say nodding towards her hair. Her hands raises up to run her fingers through her hair.
"Oh why thank you Harold, I just thought why not give into the trend." She says giggling.
"No you should be giving into silly trends Alice. What you should be doing is setting a better example for women your age. Your hairstyle was just find before you went a chopped it all off." Father said practical insulting her. Alice's head drops and a frown stretches across her face.
"Father, with all due respect, that is not fair of you to say at all. Alice is twenty two years old, if she wants to cut her hair then that is her right. But you seat there and tell me you have never done anything extravagant like cutting your hair." I said waiting for him to say something.
"You better watch your tone with me boy." He says as the car stops, signaling our arrival at the restaurant. I knew he wouldn't have had a comeback, I know it must be killing him knowing he is in the wrong this time. After all, the man think is right about absolutely anything and everything.
Father and mother get out of the car first, I follow after them and I help my sister out. When Alice steps out she fixes her dress from not having any wrinkles in it from sitting in the car. We all walk into the restaurant together and I pull my sister towards me.
"You know, he is probably just jealous because he knows he could never pull off that hairstyle." I whispered to Alice and she begins laughing and I join her.
My father informs the host that he made a reservation for the "Styles" party. The man leads us to a table towards the back of the restaurant. An older couple is seated beside us but there are three plates so I assume someone else is with them.
A waiter comes along a minute after we are seated and I order I coffee. Apparently father called ahead of time what we would like to eat.
"I'm just going to run to the men's room to wash my hands." I tell Alice.
I stand up from my seat and I walk towards the facilities. Just as I round the corner I collided with another person exiting the ladies room.
"Oh goodness, I am so sorry." the women says. My coat got a little ruffled so I fixed it up. "Oh that is quite alright Miss, it was my fault." I replied. After I finished straightening my coat I look up and my eyes widen at the women in front of me.
