Nyla P.O.V.
I opened my eyes and looked around. I couldn't see much because I was sitting on a chair with my hands and feet tied to the chair. The poor lighting didn't help me to see very far, either. There was a tiny lightbulb, which was lit, hanging on the ceiling. I was directly under it. There was a long wooden table in front of me, and I was seated (more like prisoned) at one end. That was all I could see.
I heard faint voices coming from somewhere, but I couldn't make out what they were saying. Then I noticed the throbbing in my head. It felt like a migraine, but 10 times worse. I tried to remember how I'd gotten here, but all I remembered was standing outside of science class, waiting for Jay, as usual. Then, my principle came up to me and said I had to follow her. She'd led me somewhere, but I couldn't remember where.
I have to figure a way out, I thought. I looked at my hands, which were tied really well, so I wasn't getting free from that. I moved my feet around, which were tied just as tightly as my hands.
"Trying to get out, I see," said a voice behind me.
"Who are you?" I asked.
"That's not important," the person said.
"Well, why am I here?"
"We need your friend."
"What friend?"
"Jay, of course."
I started to panic, but I couldn't let this guy get to me. He could be lying, or worse, he could be telling the truth. Stalling is my best chance at helping.
"Why do you need her?" I asked.
"So she hasn't told you..."
Jay was keeping secrets from me now? Why would she do that? We never kept secrets from each other.
"Told me what?"
"No matter. You'll be dead before she could tell you."
"You said we wouldn't kill her," another voice said behind me.
"You expected me to keep my promise? No. I rarely keep my promises."
"You said all you wanted was Jay. You said no one would be hurt, Cody."
"Do not call me by my name."
"Or what? What will you do? You're not my boss."
"Ah, yes. But our boss wouldn't mind if I just so happened to kill you as well as the two demigods."
Demigod? Like the people that were half human and half god? We learned about them in school, but I didn't think they were real. Jay just told me I should pay attention to that class, so I did.
"You wouldn't."
"Try me," Cody said.
I felt a cold cylinder placed against the back of my head. A gun. I didn't say anything, and I definitely didn't move.
"Stop," the second voice said.
"What's stopping me from killing her?" Cody asked.
"We are," a third voice said. Jay.
I heard a thud and a pair of footsteps running away. Someone began to run after the person who escaped.
"Don't," Jay said.
"Fine." Someone said.
Jay walked over to me and began to cut through the ropes, which bound me, with a pocket knife. "Hi there," she said.
"Oh my god, Jay. You saved me," I said.
She shrugged.
"Why am I here? Where is here? Why did they want you? How'd you find me?" I asked.
"Whoa, slow down. Questions later. I'm just glad you're safe," Jay said, cutting the last rope.
I stood up and hugged her. "Thank you."
"Its nothing," she said and pulled away. "Are you feeling all right?"
"Never better," I replied.
A dog came up to me and sniffed me. "Um... Who's this?"
"Oh, just a dog I found earlier," Jay said.
"What's its name?"
"I didn't really think about naming him, actually."
"How about Spark?" I suggested.
Jay laughed.
"Why's that funny?" I asked, a little embarrassed.
"Oh, it's just... Spark... Lightning... Never mind."
"Okay then..."
I heard someone clear his or her throat behind me, and I turned around.
"Oh, yeah. Nyla, this is Rydia. Rydia, this is Nyla," Jay said.
"Hey," the girl named Rydia said.
"Hi," I replied.
"Great. Now that you've been introduced, we should get going. That guy won't stay down long," Jay said and motioned to the guy, who most likely had the gun to my head, laying on the floor.
"All right," Rydia said and went towards a staircase that I hadn't seen before. Jay and I followed. We went down so many staircases that I lost count of how many there were. Soon enough, we reached the exit and walked outside.
"So do we call the police or something?"
"No," Jay said. "This is beyond the police."
I dropped the conversation, knowing that Jay wouldn't want to explain things right now.
"Then where do we go?" Rydia asked.
"First, I have to meet someone somewhere. Then she'll take us somewhere safe."
"Who? Where?" I asked.
"Someone that I'm surprised would help me. She hates kids like me. Sometimes she kills them," Jay said.
"So why are you meeting with her?" I asked.
"She's our best hope. I don't want you guys to be in trouble."
"Okay then... Lead the way, captain," Rydia said.
"All right. Come on, we have to go meet someone who could easily kill us all."
I exchanged a nervous glance with Rydia, but we followed Jay. If I couldn't trust Jay, who could I trust?
